A tipster writes in that Glenfield Middle School has received a bomb threat and students were sent home early. We'll update when we get more.
UPDATE: It's all quiet in front of Glenfield now, but just a little while ago, it was quite the madhouse with the early dismissal and the firetrucks. From another anonymous parent:
I just picked my daughter up from Glenfield. The kids had been let out early due to an apparent bomb scare. Maple Avenue is filled with fire trucks, police cars, etc. Dogs are inside the building. My daughter was told by a friend that a note was given to a teacher saying that they were going to bomb the school. The vice principal announced around 1:20 that everyone should stop working because there was an important announcement. The children were then dismissed during ninth period.

Here is the letter form glenfield's principal.

Dear Parents/Caregivers:
Today at school, a student found a note taped to the underside of a student desk. The note, which hinted at a bomb, was promptly turned over to the classroom teacher. The building administration decided to cancel all after school activities and dismiss
the student body at approximately 1:50. Although there was no evidence that this was anything more than an extremely inappropriate juvenile prank, the Montclair Fire Department and Police Department, for precautionary reasons, were called in. Moreover,
the Essex County Sheriff's Department was notified and brought in their K-9 units. The K-9 units searched the building and declared it "all clear" at 2:29.
We are sorry if anyone was alarmed; however, in matters of safety, we will continue to err on the side of caution. Please note that if any of your children would like to speak to our counselors, both Mrs. Weintraub and Mr. Webber will be available to
meet with your child, either in groups or individually.
As always, if you would like to speak with an administrator in greater detail, please contact Glenfield Middle School.
Sincerely,
Alex Anemone
So that's the story, directly from the Principal. Now all you folks out there that have "heard this" and "heard that" can put your hear say to rest.
