Essex County Exec, Joe DiVincenzo, that's who. In a statement today, he also let the cat out of the bag: half of Brookdale Park's new and somewhat contentious dog park will be turned into a covered cat run. "There was a lot of hissing and growling from residents about noise pollution and overcrowding. My solution to flip the large dog section farther away from the homes was pissed on by the Green Acres folks, who don't want to allocate any more money to redesign the new park. I could only squeeze out a few dollars out of my pet fund, so the best solution is to cover the top of the area in question, and open the park to cats, who are much quieter," he said. Plans include the addition of carpeted, covered platforms where the feline friends can take a cat nap.
DiVincenzo told Baristanet his solution that would keep the park quiet, and it would benefit a larger number of Essex County residents, both cat and dog owners. Ok, the small doggies still have their playground, but what about the big dogs, we wanted to know? "There's plenty of open space left in Brookdale Park. The large dogs and their owners can continue to gather informally, like they did before we built the dog park."
Do we hear a purr?
