You Dunderhead! What a Clue to Leave!

Tuesday, April 22, 2008

More details on last week's bomb threat at Glenfield Middle School in Montclair emerge in the police blotter. According to the officer's notes, the folded piece of paper taped under a desk warned "Danger do not open" on the outside. And inside:

You idiot! I told you not to open this you dunderhead! sheesh! There is a bomb planted in the school set for 7:00 p.m.

Bomb squad and K-9 units declared the building safe within an hour. As for the dunderhead who left the note, still no word on an arrest (or spanking.) But if there's one child left in America who still uses that expression, I believe we'll have found our culprit.

It was either Ren, Stimpy, Pinky or "The Brain," I'm sure. All have "talked" like that before on their respective shows.

I'm betting on "The Brain!"

I thought Dunder-Mifflin right away. Maybe it was Dwight Schrute.

Posted by hrhppg | April 22, 2008 4:30 PM

No. But Dwight WILL find the culprit!

Ah, Guido, taking a break from designing outhouses to comment! Merveilleux!

When, however, will you ever display some genuine class? Or was your gelding just really that traumatic?

So we know the kid's probably retarded, that should narrow it down.

Posted by ackme | April 22, 2008 9:37 PM

The kid is in middle school. You were expecting rocket science?

Our out-to-lunch Guv is truly a dunderhead.

He wants to close the parks by keep political slush funds (pork) open.

He has got to go. And to all the dolts who voted for him - did you learn your lesson?

Having a child that is bright and good has nothing to do with their ability to make good judgement calls. Knowing the difference between right and wrong is becoming a problem for our kids. It is the "other 3 R's: Respect, Reliability and Responsibility". I will be talking to Bryan Jenkins this Tuesday on News 12 New Jersey about these values and how parents and educators can get them across to our kids. Because what we are doing now -- anti bullying and character education programs -- are clearly inadequate. They are bandaid-ing major surgery. Candy for a cancer patient. Too little too late. What we need are 2 things: Prevention programs form the educators and clear discipline, guidance and expectations from parents.

Tired but true: Insanity is repeating the same action and hoping for a different result.

1) 3rd graders trying to kill teacher
2) Florida Cheerleader assault
3) MHS gang assault
4) MSU bomb note
5) Linden gun incident
6) Kid who threatened to blow up high school

The question remains, how many Columbines does it take for parents to take action?

SocialSmarts doesn't have all the answers, but our program HAS eliminated bullying in ALL the schools it is in right now. As an evidenced based SEL program, we are successfully helping parents, educators and kids make the right choices by thinking of others first.

According to the Carnegie Mellon Foundation 85% of our success depends on our social skills; how we handle situations, and what choices we make about them.

Even if that guy was bluffing, his impetus to do such a thing, reflects only on his lack of judgement. Where on earth were his social skills in knowing right from wrong?

These are the questions we should be asking when the lives of students are at stake.
