Brrrrrrrrr!

Tuesday, May 20, 2008

Seriously, 47 degrees in May, less than a week before Memorial Day? True, we had one springlike day on Saturday, and the one before that was ... oh who remembers? And again, according to today's forecast, there's 100 percent chance of rain. And a high of 56. Give me some global warming. Now!

True, they're really suffering over in Asia, but what about relief right here in the arugula belt? Somebody, please send over some instant-tanning lotion, full-spectrum light lamps and tickets to Aruba.

The only silver lining? You appear to have another month or so to complete your diet.

"...the arugala belt."

LOL! Global warming, global schmorming -- can't wait to see my PSE&G gas bill for this month.

I HATE having to wear a freakin' coat the week before Memorial Day. Some of my poor flowers are afraid to poke their pretty little heads out. Global warming, my a**.

My back yard looks awesome. The rose bushes have started to bloom, the grass is lush and deep, dark green with nary a dandellion in sight. The clematis is lush, climbing all over the fences, and ready to pop, the tomato plants are doing well. We have lettuce in planters, Robins splashing in the bird bath, morning glory starting to come out of the ground.

I can't wait for this weekend when I'll finish cleaning and furnishing our porch and clean the rest of the 'tree gook' off of the driveway.

Next Monday is going to blow people's minds!

Indeed the world revolves around y'all. Screw the sinking islands!

Brush: when you are done, could you come over and do our yard? Thanks, buddy, I'll keep a couple of cans of Pabst Blue Ribbon cold for you. I'll just leave them on the deck.

(Right now, the robins are playing ice hockey in our bird bath...)

Posted by Conan | May 20, 2008 9:36 AM

Conan,

Just leave them on the deck..

You're in the manse on Upper Mountain, just south of Watchung, right?

I'll bring the John Deere and Tubby.

Thank goodness for global warming, or it'd be snowing now.

Posted by walleroo | May 20, 2008 9:46 AM

What a bunch of sissies!

In a few weeks everybody is going to be complaining about the heat.

Posted by MellonBrush | May 20, 2008 9:51 AM

Clematis! We have that, too. So beautiful and a nice way to camouflage a fence. Our garden looks good. We're just sad that we can't enjoy sitting out in the yard because it's so darn COLD!

The ocean temp in the Charleston, SC area is already 75 (at the Jersey shore, even come September after a real hot summer it never gets above 72), the air is in the low-mid 80's, the dolphin pods are close in to shore and it's white shrimp season. (I attended the blessing of the fleet myself.) So you don't have to go nearly as far as Aruba or Nevis, honest.

Yes, it's chilly, but it is spring....I love the in-between seasons...less extreme and all the spring flowers stick around to be enjoyed before the heat knocks 'em off. This glass is half-full (won't say with what!).

Posted by jerseygirl | May 20, 2008 10:17 AM

Right on, jerseygirl. I'm digging this weather.

Posted by crank | May 20, 2008 10:21 AM

Has anyone ever purchased from Despair, Inc.? (Altogether brilliant stuff in their catalogue.) They actually sell a pessimists' mug marked with a red line and the saying, "This glass is now officially half-empty." I gave a few as Christmas presents.

This weather has driven me to using the heated seats every day and I bought a package at Hollywood Tans. I give up.

The garden does look good though except for some black spot on the roses but I can't powder until the rains stops!

Posted by ackme | May 20, 2008 10:37 AM

I'm still using my electric blanket.

I dunno, I guess I am weird in that I prefer warm, sunny days to cold, gloomy ones at springtime. Even the rain doesn't bother me (good for the garden), it's just the unseasonable chill. I like it cold in December, though, around the holidays.

Watch the podcasts at Despair, Inc. - so funny.

I love the warm sunny days. I am happiest when it is 90 degrees and I can lie in the sun with a good book.

"You're in the manse on Upper Mountain, just south of Watchung, right?"

Yes. The one on the left. We leave the other one for the servants.

And, I spent this past weekend in New Hampshire, where it was sunny, seventy, but rife with black flies. Be very grateful that this part of New Jersey is spared from the "no-seeum" invasions every spring.

I was actually one of those global warming skeptics until this past weekend. Now that the killer cornflakes are heading our way, I'll have to think twice before ever questioning Al Gore again:

killer cornflakes

Despair, Inc. is fantastic. I have purchased from there as well.

I'm with you, jerseygirl. It's been a while since we had an actual "spring" and didn't just jump from blizzards in April to a sweletering summer.

Posted by banana split | May 20, 2008 11:29 AM

Sweltering, even!

where's algore when we need him? Isn't this supposed to be the start of halter top season?

Mellonbrush...I'm cooling the pabst on the back deck...without the cooler.

One year at work, I used various Despair's note cards as my Xmas cards for everyone.

I have no doubt that a note was made in someone's file marking me as a prime candidate for downsizing when the time came. Such is the price of attempting to humanize the workplace.
