Expect Train Delays

Monday, May 19, 2008

From Clever Commute's Conductor Josh...

Per NJT: M&E-MID Due to disabled Amtrak work equipment in the tunnel between NJ & NY, all trains in/out of New York subject to 20-30 minute delays.

They are also reporting it on the news...so this AM will probably be a slow trip on the train

Greetings from the rails. We're approaching Secaucus...and things are indeed slow. Not terrible / meltdown...but slow. Feedback from riders on other NJT riders tells me that the second tube in/out of NYC is now open...so there is decent flow. Hopefully...things are getting better on this Monday morning.
Safe travels, all!

We're in the home stretch...but indeed it looks like we'll be as late as NJT originally predicted...if not slightly worse.
They just sent an update saying 30-45 min inbound delays.

The 7:35 arrived at 9:20, rather than 8:25. Nice nap, though.

Ouch! I feel your pain, transplanted. But alas, I worked at home today and therefore wasn't among you ticky-tacky commuting work-a-day losers. Ha ha ha ha HA HA H A HAH A HAH AHA HA HAHA HAA H AHAHAHAH!!!!

No doubt jerseygurl was sitting a few rows down from you, looking out the window and whimpering the entire time.

Hey Walleroo. I have discovered that I avoid most delays by going the Hoboken/PATH route which actually brings me quite close to my office. Much nicer than Penn and no Amtrak issues on that stretch between Secaucus and Penn. Delightful.

And what did you do whilst "working at home" today, walleroo? Judging from your maniacal tone, you were pulling the wings off of live butterflies, I'm guessing.

(While jerseygurl worked her cell phone during the train delay looking for a new mast of the finest mahogany from Upper Volta for her sailboat, perhaps. To be shipped directly to her berth on Mantucket, no doubt.)

Penn Station, NYC is a horrible place, kind of like a way station on the road to hell. I'm so glad I don't commute through that open sewer any more.

Legions of impatient commuters jostling for position as they watch, like hawks, the schedule board for their train, and then rushing like a herd of demented cattle when they spot their gate being announced, only to stall in an impatient, foot shifting, throng as the bottleneck at the gate door slows their singleminded stampede.

It's true, Mellon, those poor bastards in the developing world don't know how lucky they are to not have to deal with Penn Station. Oh, if only I could spend my days weaving baskets, looking for firewood and repairing the mud hut.

What I looooooove about you, jerseygurl, is that you are so easily summoned. It took a mere 21 minutes for you to reply to my taunt. You are Baristanet's Old Reliable.

As for you, cathar, I was not pulling the wings off butterflies. I was zapping ants with my magnifying glass.

Walleroo - I was waiting for you. I saw the commute post and thought "Ah, if I just wait a bit I'm sure I'll be summoned by Walleroo." And I was. That's why I love you too, I know if it's a train delay story you'll be calling for me.....

Cathar -

I don't know if Mantucket was intentional but I like it.

Posted by jerseygurl | May 19, 2008 7:51 PM

Our hearts apparently beat in synchrony, jerseygurl. Oh, to be in love!

Posted by walleroo | May 19, 2008 10:56 PM

One day it's Liz George, the next jerseygurl. Walleroo, thy inconstancy is more than a little bit annoying.

But yes, jerseygurl, "Mantucket" was intentional. And you didn't deserve it, given the verbal parchedness of your own posts.

You're wrong, cathar, it's Liz and jerseygurl on the same day. What can I say, I'm a chick magnet.
