« MONTCLAIR'S NEW MAYOR: JERRY FRIED, UNITY RUNNING MATES FILL MOST OF THE SLATE SLOTS | Main | We're Patting Ourselves On The Back So Hard, It Hurts »

Last Night, At The Victory Party

Wednesday, May 14, 2008

Mayoral opponent Joyce Michaelson, incumbent Mayor Ed Remsen, and former Mayor Bob Russo were among the throng who showed up at Unity Montclair's gathering to offer congratulations. "Joyce was very gracious," says Fried. "I received a call from Ted Mattox's campaign manager, but haven't heard personally from Ted," Fried told Baristanet this morning. "It is what it is." UPDATE: Mattox made the congratulatory call this morning, and was very gracious, writes Fried.

Montclair photographer Phil Cantor captured the moment at Unity Montclair's headquarters after Jerry Fried's big win.

Is it me or does Hartnett look like the Ghost Rider in that photo?

I don't think I've ever seen a pic of Joe Hartnett before. Is it just me or does he look a little like Dick Cheney crossed with Emperor Palpatine?

If the new council decides to fire Harnett, Joe can always get a job as a stand-in as a body double for Larry Craig.

(Don't make fun of folks here. jerseygurl is likely to be very upset and claim it beneath you.)

Man, Jimmy, you beat me by 3 minutes. I knew I shouldn't have stopped to make sure I was spelling the name of the Dark Lord of the Sith correctly.

I actually meant for that comment about Harnett being a body double for Larry Craig to be a compliment. Larry Craig is a handsome man. Definitely the best looking of the Singing Senators. Though Lott certainly had better hair.

I don' think we have to stoop to making fun of Hartnett's appearance. It's a lot easier to just talk about how terrible he is at his job.

Well, let's hope that this new slate is the breath of fresh air that we need in Montclair. Congrats to all the winners.

The election was certainly a repudiation of the status quo. Not one sitting office holder was elected. That suggests people want serious change in the way business is done in the township. Services, including police and fire, need to be more efficient. Departments need to be more responsive to taxpayers. Time to let the township mgr. really clean house and get rid of the dead wood. Time to appoint people to the BOE who will fulfill their oversight responsibilities. Zero-based budgeting must begin now. Good luck to all of those elected.

"Not one sitting office holder was elected."

Thank God.

So all physical comments aside (but I agree with Palpatine), what does Fried's election mean to Hartnett's tenure? I understood that Mattox wanted him gone and Michaelson wanted to keep him, but what is the new Mayor's position on things?

jersey where are you?

People are making fun of the way our elected officials look......

Really Gary, weight watchers? That's really beneath you!!!

(Funny as hell. But still beneath you.... right, jersey?)

profwilliams,

If I had said that Cary Africk was the "Councilor that is Large", that would have been beneath me

So that is why I refuse to say anything like that

Congrats to the winners and condolences to the losers. Let's all hope that it was Montclair that won. If one of the problems in the past was too much reliance on the Town Manager how can this be avoided. Considering the fact that these new people are inexperienced, I have the feeling that they might be even more dependent upon him. However, it is time for fresh ideas and we have to hope that is what we are going to see.

Weller is 8 1/2 months pregnant! Fried is on the thin side. Africk and Lewis a pleasingly plump!

So that is why I refuse to say anything like that

it's been reported that you were living in Africk's dumpster and saying that you were his neightbor. Don't bite the hand that feeds you!

Maybe Africk and Lewis are having sympathy stomachs for Weller?

I doubt it since they're not related. Lets talk about you for a change, about the hair loss that you're suffering from.

Don't you think it's time for a shampoo and cut. That comb over is sooooo passe.

Don't bite the hand that feeds you!

Do you think there is anything left to feed me?

Montclair Mommy,

I fully expect you to make fun of me, but I must insist that you be funny.

Please you can do better then that

There has obviously been something else to feed you since you're still living there.

Isn't it time to get your own place?

I do have to move as they just re-asset the property taxes on the dumpster and I can't afford them

I would say Remsen is the one who needs Weight Watchers-Snark, Snark
