Massage Parlor Rubs Patrons The Wrong Way

Friday, May 9, 2008

Montclair Police Department raided a local massage parlor, Xhale Day Spa, at 127 Pine Street, arresting owner Junia Rodriguez, 30, of Newark, and employee Chelia Tavarez, 27, of Paterson, on charges of prostitution.

Chief of Police David Sabagh says an anonymous tip led them to Exhale Day Spa, and an undercover sting. The Montclair Times reports a detective booked a one hour massage last week, paid the $60 fee. The masseuse offered the detective some extra special services: "Tavarez escorted him to one of the several back rooms and during the massage, asked if he wanted her to perform sex acts on him for an additional fee, according to police."

The detective declined and left the spa...

When he returned an hour later with a search warrant and a Vice Control team, they found Tavarez naked, with a customer, and a condom on the floor.

The owner claims her business is on the up and up. Police told the Montclair Times the owner says it's all a misunderstanding. It was Tavarez's first day of work, and she was acting without the owner's authorization.

From The Montclair Times:

Following last week's raid, she (Rodriguez) was charged with promoting prostitution, while Tavarez was charged with engaging in prostitution.

Officers seized documents with customer's names...and $523 in cash, police said.

It took an anonymous tip to lead them there? This place is the worst kept secret in town. They've been advertising on craigslist for years. And their website isn't exactly hiding the fact that they specialize in happy endings:

Wow, I've been going to this building for years and I had no idea there was a massage business located there.

No wonder the parking lot is always full when I arrive for a Dr's appointment!

Mellon, don't try to convince us here that you were there for a "Dr.'s appointment."

We don't judge......

this is so silly

especially in light of what's legal

these are consensual activities between adults

call it "dating"

Posted by User Name | May 9, 2008 10:36 AM

User,

Paying for the "date" is the crime.

However, I think the Nanny State lets you off if the pay is in the form of dinner.

Or at the very least coffee.

George Carlin asked, "How can it be illegal to sell it, but it's fine to give it away for free?"

Next time I see my PCP, I'll ask him if he can give me a referral for a 'massage'.

Posted by MellonBrush | May 9, 2008 10:48 AM

How can it be illegal for one person to charge a person for a sex act but the same person can make a videotape of the act, sell millions of copies of DVDs, have it on pay per view cable, and have it promoted on an Internet site?

Mellon, when you were there to see the "doctor", did you leave any "specimens"?

Posted by croiagusanam | May 9, 2008 10:52 AM

"When he returned an hour later with a search warrant and a Vice Control team, they found Tavarez naked, with a customer, and a condom on the floor."

Note to Ms. Tavarez: The man's supposed to wear the condom. But I'll let it slide since it was your "first day at work."

mets,

As long as money was not paid by one "actor" to the other "actor", yes.

So, two "performers" on video, both being paid by say vivid video, is just fine.

However, if one pays the other and videotapes it- that's prostitution.

I think....

Cro,

In appropriate receptacles, of course!

I honestly believe that it such places were regulated and legalized, and gave frustrated horny guys a way off getting their rocks off, we'd have a whole less sex crimes. Never will happen though.

I have a friend who is a chiropractor down in Florida who swears to me that 50% of his business is lonely little old ladies who coke in just to have some physical contact of some kind with another human being. Not a whole lot different from guys looking for the old rub and tug massage.

Dead Giveaway, from the web site:

"Of course, we encourage you to discuss your own personal needs and preferences with your therapist, to ensure your total comfort and satisfaction. If there are particular places you feel would benefit from additional attention, be sure to discuss it with your therapist."

You have to wonder why anyone trying to stay in business would have such a blatantly obvious website. Bizarre.

"Officers seized documents with customer's names"

Do you think patrons gave their real names?

Why was this place taking down names?

I wonder if any members of the Unity, Thrive, or Partnership slates patronized this place. Any Spitzer-wannabees running in Montclair?

Why was this place taking down names?

At a guess I'd say it was an apointment book.

Although, I imagine the lobby became quite the chaotic scene when the receptionist asked for "John Doe."

speaking of massage parlors reminds me that I haven't ranted about Hillary lately. Is it finally over for her...can she please just slink into blissful anonimity?
