Announcers Wanted

The New Jersey Jackals baseball team will hold its 2nd Annual Jackals PA Announcer Fantasy Experience from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 19 at Yogi Berra Stadium. For $25, you can announce your favorite line-up over the Stadium PA system, get a photo of you at the mic and a free ticket to a Jackals game. For an additional $10, receive a CD of your “Experience” performance. All ages may participate, but availability of slots is limited. To register, send an e-mail here or call (973) 746-7434 ext. 8068.

As much as I love Jackals games -- more than the game itself, more than the close-up seats and the lack of fencing between you and the players and the hot dogs and the beer and knowing half the people in the audience and being able to move up to box seats no matter what kind of seats you bought --more even than the parking -- more than all that, I just love the marketing spectacle. Jack the Jackal, the t-shirt throw, the goofy hop-hop games they have people play between innings sponsored by local dry cleaners. I never fail to have a good time.

i'm w/you walleroo. jackals games are a hoot. the frisbee tosses, the laz-e-boy seats, the bugle guy, Y-M-C-A and a bit of Applegate to boot. and getting out of the lot is a breeze. i don't need no mlb!

Sounds to me like "Wallets Wanted" would have been a more appropriate headline, but perhaps I'm growing cynical in my old age.

I wonder if the Jackals would be interested in renaming the team the Wallaroos. (I'm thinking career change for moi.)
