2:15pm Tipster Update: The Oakview area has power again.
A rumor that Demarest Elementary School had been the scene of a fire last night is unfounded, Goul said.
More, from Bloomfield Life:
Last night, there were 45,000 homes in the immediate area without power. This morning, that number has risen to 57,000. A PSE&G representative told police he'd never seen as much devastation in such a small period of time before.Power went out in the police station last night, and the station's generator malfunctioned. Local police borrowed a generator from the county that is still being used.
Felicity Towers, a senior citizen facility, is still without power. Health department workers and police are on the scene assisting with anyone who needs medical attention.
At 8:00 p.m. last night, Fred Menzel, the head of the Bloomfield Office of Emergency Management, declared a state of emergency in the township that continues this morning.
According to Police Capt. Chris Goul, Bloomfield may not see a complete restoration of power until Friday, though he added that is a "worst-case scenario."

since there are about a a dozen articles on the same subject, I'm not sure if it has been said but: Anyone hear about the Tornado that demolished Nutley?
Don't want to jinx it, but the power's on (right near Oakview) as of 2 p.m. today.
Felicity Towers is hot!
If there was no big fire then what was with all the trucks and sirens last night? Right after the lights went out for us at 7 pm last night we heard the occasional siren with officers heading to man corners with the lights out, etc. But at one point, I believe it was before the storm, we heard the sounds of many fire engines in the direction of Glen Ridge, all heading south. Then we heard Bloomfield fire trucks going up Bellville Ave toward GR. Then minutes late we heard more trucks w/ sirens heading up Belleville again and we guessed it might be Belleville Fire Dept. I mean, the sound of sirens last night was constant, but this sounded like lots of fire trucks heading to the same place.
There was a fire off East Passaic Ave in Nutley (Old Canal Inn block) - tree came down, took elec wires with it and a car was burning. That would have caused a lot of sirens in the Pulaski Park stretch on East Passaic in Bloomfield.
SSP
Downed power lines, trees into houses, trees blocking houses, trees blocking streets and calls for houses on fire that were all false alarms. Bloomfield FD was running all night trying to clean up and help the town.
Friday?!? I might need one of these in the meantime.

Yeah fezzik, but I believe this was before the storm. It sounded like they were headed towards Bloomfield Ave in the GR area.
No matter. Glad to see that nobody was hurt in all of this madness.
They had the wrong location - there was a fire near Demarest, not at it. It was on Broughton, between Watchung and the flashing light. It was an electrical fire with lots of white flames shooting out of the street and a transformer pulsing wah wah sound. Seemed to go on for a while.
Still a lot of trees downed near Brookdale Park in Bloomfield. Police tape on a couple of streets. We were one of the few streets here had power- but we did have to find a plumber who kindly came around 10:00 pm to check out a problem in the basement...Temple Ner Tamid had preschool today-even as the trees were down in front and all Bloomfield Schools were closed. A very gracious thing as many of the mother's who live in the Oakview section didn't have power. (Now restored- although not sure about police tape streets in Brookdale section) Still a mess- but great clean up job by all is continuing. It does seem like an amazing number of downed trees fell in the right direction- away from houses and cars...
when will downtown mtc close to union get power
James Street in Bloomfield is still closed off. Word is still no power. Spring is closed off too near Memorial Park.
We got our power back @ 12:30 PM on Wednesday after 16 hours w. no power.
We live in the So. end of town.
We were just about to start emptying our freezer when it came back on, thank goodness.
