Giants & Jets Fans Get Jacked!

Saturday, June 28, 2008

How much is a season ticket in the new Giants/Jets stadium going to cost? A heckuva lot...From CBS.Sportsonline:

Giants co-owner John Mara said most of the 82,500 seats in the stadium, scheduled to open in 2010, will carry seat license fees of $1,000. Less than 5,000 seats will carry license fees of $20,000.

Mara acknowledged he is worried about angering longtime fans of the Super Bowl champions. The charge applies to each seat a ticket-holder owns.

"We tried hard to come up with a plan that guarantees everybody the opportunity to stay in the building," he said.

He said it would be "extremely difficult" to build the $1.6 billion stadium in the Meadowlands -- whose cost is being split evenly by the two teams -- without asking fans to help pay for it through seat licenses. Mara said the license fees will raise $300 million to $400 million.

Sports fans, it's your time to vent...

Jacked?

I didn't realize anyone was forced to pay?

They (Giants/Jets) have something many want. They can charge what they want.

I know I would! (And believe me, at prof-stadium, I'd jack you for a cool $50 for parking....)

If they get it- and they will, look for a quick price increase next year.

And really, in the richest state in the Union, next to the richest city, an hour from the 2nd richest state, is anyone going to cry over this?

They know their market.

How long is the waiting list? 20 years?

I'm worried that the Yanks are going to install this policy in their new Stadium.
Sadly, I would pay it (it took years to get the seats we have) but we'd have o do without food for years in order to afford these ticket:;

a 40+ year waiting list for season tickets doesn't help the "demand" side of the equation as far as keeping ticket prices or PSL from being implemented.

I'll buy a ticket when they change their name to the NJ Giants and that'll be never! How many NFL players are arrested each year??

I guess PAZ can't watch any movies or listen to music either given their stellar ethical and criminal records

NFL players, PAZ, are probably arrested in percentages no higher than citizens in most other classifications are (Pacman Jones notwithstanding).

There are also those who quite clearly turn their lives around after a bust. Montclair's own David Tyree is but one shining example.

Whereas Norman Mailer, after stabbing his then-wife, remained an unrepentant drunkard and debauchee for most of the rest of his life (and claimed to have talked to God as well!, as if this somehow excused his atrabiliousness). And Philip Roth used to beat up Claire Bloom when they lived together. Did either of these guys's well-recounted misdeeds make you give up reading?

$1000 a ticket is actually not that bad in comparison with some of the other stadiums, like the Cowboys. I have two tickets in the first row of the upper deck in the endzone, so I'm hoping they fall under the 90% of tickets going at that price. It is kind of an investment, in that down the road if I ever think about selling my license I should make money on it.
