Tomorrow, get down and have a good time at Montclair's annual African-American Parade and Festival. Everyone's welcome to march in the parade, which assembles at Nishuane Park at 9:30, and begins at 10:30am, rain or shine. The route is Cedar Ave/Harrison Ave (staging area) to Orange Road, to Elm Street, to Bloomfield Ave, to Maple Ave and ending in Glenfield Park. An all-day festival - exhibits, food, entertainment for the whole family gets going at noon, until 6pm.
Beware of Road closures:
Cedar Ave from Harrison to Orange Road (East & West), Orange Road (North & South) from Linden Ave to Bloomfield Ave will be closed, and Bloomfield Ave (East & West) from the Glenridge town line to Gates Ave, MTC will be closed. MPD advises motorists to avoid Glenridge Ave, and use Walnut Street or any streets North of Glenridge Ave that parallel Bloomfield Ave.
Keep a lookout for Baristanet pal Frank Gerard Godlewski and giant frogs, floating by in his beautiful new/old volvo . Children from the Hollow Community Center and FGG are working on the decorations right now.
If you want to keep partying (and eating)...
folks are buzzing about Newark's Portuguese Festival which rocks the Ironbound district for three full days morning to midnight...there's a full weekend of fun sponsored by Brits Rock4 Autism, and much more in our Calendar.

Sorry, I thought I read they are closing Bloomfield Avenue.
Naw.
They are closing a part of Bloomfield Ave...It's a great parade, I'll be out there taping for a future segment of Inside Montclair...stop over and say Hi.
After the parade and the politicians, will they cut the grass and clean up the park as well as they do before?*
Mr. Robbins - After the parade, come back a few days, after 6-7pm, and take some photos. Don't miss the daily debris around the b-ball court - 2ft from huge trash cans. Interview the b-ball players, like I have, about their responsibility to clean up their mess. Interview the adults involved in b-ball about the same thing. And, don't forget to get photos of the porta pottie and park house in the kiddie park, empty drug packets, and the giant truck that MPD allows to park on Woodland. Then show those photos, side by side, with snaps of Watsessing and Verona Parks.
Then, do the story on how family-friendly it all is.
Better yet, do a story on why progressive-minded people, County Parks Dept Director, and elected county officials think this is so wonderful. Suggest that the wonderful model be replicated in Verona.
