Annette,

Thanks for the info.

There are more than 6,000 children in the Montclair District. If parents gave $5 for each of their own kids, we'd raise $30,000 quickly.

What the significance of the $30K number?

Why would the expectation be that every person who has a child in Montclair schools would want to donate?

It is a tragedy and I feel for the children but I dont think it obligates all parents to make a donation.

I don't mean any disrespect to Monica or her children, but this site is awfully dour today--murder, orphans, grannies drinking tiki fuel. Where is one to post silly inane comments, the very flower of Baristanet?

I suppose no one is ever obligated to do anything in life to help another. Your kids (if you have any) are no doubt alive, mine are alive, etc.

Everyone who reads this site probably has a partner who isn't going to murder him or her in front of the kids. Yes, our lives are very, very different than Monica's and the daughter who watch her mother get gunned down. And you're right, none of us has an obligation to do anything other than feel bad, shake our head and mutter about what a monster this guy was as we sip a Latte and run off to the gym.

But before you head out you might want to stop first at St. Barnabas or St. Joe's and put your name on the list for a heart transplant. You really need one.

Uh boy. Excuse me while I mosey over to the item about fireworks...

The UWNE site is not yet set up to select a donation for Monica Paul's family, but the woman I spoke with on the phone there said that if you fill out the donation form online, you can make a note that it is for that purpose and they'll ensure it gets to the right place.

They said they'll have the setup finished early next week.

Actually, I just made a donation online, and there was no way to designate it, so I had to send a note making it clear.

If you want to make a donation via the United Way, I'd suggest sending a check for now with a note in the memo line.

Elm St is a nightmare right now. Channel 7 News trucks and both sides of the street parked up for blocks.

Dear Walleroo,
I'm sure that Harper didn't mean to be unkind in her/his comments about a heart transplant. I felt that same way when I read what you wrote (even though I knew that you were just trying to break up the tension). That said, as far as I'm concerned this is the story in out town (the "fun" stuff is, well, fun, but I look at this site for news first).
The tragedy is beyond words (literally), although a lttle levity can help (and I very much enjoy your posts). It's just hard to find anything to be cheerful about because of what happened. I know we're all hoping that this murderer gets caught, and quickly.

DeboraPub,

I'm pretty sure the "heart transplant" post was directed to the way more cynical than necessary post by "girl."

(that's why I always address my reply posts as if I were writting a personal letter)

Dear Generically named Mike,
You're right! I just re-read the post by Harper. My apologies to Harper (and to Walleroo). As for donations -- it's easy just to send them to the Bradford PTA
. We're a caring community so I'm sure
the donations will be be generous.

well said harper.
