Caldwell residents must boil tap water - until further notice. Traces of E.Coli bacteria, of unknown origin, were found in a test sample. From The Star Ledger:
The borough of Caldwell's advisory to boil water because of the presence of E. coli bacteria remains in effect today, an official said late Tuesday night.Water should be boiled for one minute prior to consumption or cooking. It is safe to use for bathing, washing clothes or watering the lawn without boiling, officials said.
The advisory to boil water will continue at least through midnight, Caldwell police officer Andrew Apicella said late Tuesday night.
The advisory was issued at 12:50 p.m. Tuesday after a sampling Monday revealed the bacteria's presence. Township employees and local volunteers went door-to-door Tuesday to notify residents.
The town's water is supplied from wells in Essex Fells. Officials say water in Essex Fells, Roseland, and North Caldwell - other communities who get their water from the same source, has not been contaminated.

I wish they had sent this out earlier. I could have used the news that it's okay to use the water on my lawn without boiling it first. Now I've up and cooked my grass.
I heard the problem occurred when they accidentally crossed their main sewer line with their freshwater intake. It is now safe to drink from your toilets.
"It is now safe to drink from your toilets."
That will make all the Caldwell puppies happy...
Oh s---.
The huge, blinking signs on Bloomfield Ave were still hugely blinking that Caldwell residents should still be boiling their water as of 7:30 this morning.
