Here's your schedule of Baristaville festivities for the fourth..
Celebrate Independence Day at Montclair's 58th annual 4th of July parade, picnic and fireworks.
The parade begins at 11:00 a.m. at Bloomfield Avenue (at S. Fullerton) and the route proceeds to Midland Avenue, north to Watchung Avenue, west to Valley Road and south to Edgemont Park. The Baristas will be joining in the parade for our fourth consecutive year (just wait to see how far we've come from the shopping cart days...) and regulars like the Fralinger String Band, Wayne Raiders Drum & Bugle Crops, and the Jersey Surf Drum & Bugle Corps will be marching. Also in the parade line-up: Baristaville juggler Jen Slaw, Montclair Community Band, St. Columcille United Gaelic Pipe Band, community floats, fire engines, antique cars.
After the parade, hang around for the Family picnic at Edgemont Park. Like last year, food and refreshments will be provided by Applegate Farm and Church Street Kitchen. Kids rock band AudraRox will be there to entertain...Kids ride on the electric trackless train, visit with animals of Turtle Back Zoo.
Later that evening, hop on the free Fourth of July NJ Transit Fireworks Express to Mountainside Park for the annual explosion of fireworks. Train service starts at 6:30, entertainment begins at 7, fireworks at 9. BYOB (Bring your own blanket). For more details, visit Montclair's July 4th website.
In Bloomfield things start booming tomorrow at Brookdale Park, with a 7pm concert performed by the Symphony Orchestra, followed by fireworks at dusk.
On the 4th:
5 p.m. Gates open at Foley Field/Memorial Park for Kids Activities: Carnival, face painting and food vendors
6:30 p.m. Opening Ceremonies
7:30 p.m. Music by the group "Jersey Sound"
Fireworks at dusk
Free for senior citizens, children under 6
$1.00 for Children 7-17

Does anyone know what time the Montclair parade is over?
We are having people over and don't want the late-nicks to complain about how Midland was closed and they had to drive all over town to get to our place.
That's odd, I didn't get an invitation. Must've been held up in the mail.
Sorry 'roo, but our landlord has a very strict "no pet" policy.
I just assumed that meant no marsupials, too.
Are there fireworks in Glen Ridge?
Are there fireworks in Bloomfield?
Why aren't the fireworks happening in Brookdale Park listed?
No fireworks in Glen Ridge except for the GLen Ridge Country Club which doesn't count cause it's private (though you can see them pretty well from nearby).
Bloomfield stuff already listed (Brookdale) unless that was added after your post.
The Montclair parade is fun and long...You should allow at least until 1:00 for streets to open, perhaps later.
I'll be there cheering everyone in the parade on. It's always fun!
Thanks njjackel,
I've always lived within walking distance of the parade route and have therefore never noticed when the roads officially opened back up.
Anyone done Mountainside and Brookdale before????
which is the better show?
Don't forget! Montclair State University is the official parade marshall in celebration of the centennial of the University. Rocky the Red Hawk, the official mascot, will be marching along with the Montclair State Float!

I wish they'd bring back the rainbow dance troupe from a few summers back that seemed to scandalize someone or other. They presented an outstanding spectacle. Nothing much to do with gaining independence from England, but then that basically applies to 80 percent of the parade. Still, liked that group a lot...
