First there were the fantasy announcer contests with the New Jersey Jackals. Now the Newark Bears have their own promotion...
The (former) King of Pop is turning 50 this summer and the Newark Bears are throwing him a party on July 18. Fans are encouraged to put on a sequin batting glove and head over to the Bears game for Michael Jackson's 50th birthday celebration.
A Michael Jackson impersonator will be on hand to take on Bears mascot Rip 'N Ruppert in a Thriller Dance off. Here's the Bears' impersonator on YouTube from last year. Oh, and fans can enter the Bears' moonwalk competition on top of the dugout. But wait, there's also a happy birthday MJ fireworks spectacular. We're guessing there might be a baseball game in there somewhere as well. For info, go here.

Why in the world would anyone schlep all the way to Newark to see an irrelevant Michael Jackson promotion when in our own hometown, the Jackals continue to amaze us with one brilliant promotion after another. This Thursday, for example the Jackals will be celebrating the premiere of The Dark Knight...AND it is dollar beer night. Talk about family fun!
I'm now looking at the rest of the schedule and a week from Thursday the Jackals will be celebrating "Christmas Eve in July" with a special appearance by Santa Claus...AND it is dollar beer night! I'm beginning to sense a pattern here.
Are children encouraged to attend the Bears game, or not?
Children, Conan, will of course be welcomed. ("Suffer the little children to come unto the King of Pop....," it's from the NAMBLA scriptures which are probably available via its web site.) Especially if masked, veiled and swaddled up.
