I find big, bushy, lush summer gardens intoxicating. So tonight when I couldn't sleep, I decided to fashion a ring light/bounce/macro reflector out of aluminum foil (don't even ask. Lots of crinkling) and go outside and take a few photos of my night garden. Focusing is a little tricky, and even with autofocus, one is sometimes surprised by the results. I kept hoping that when I uploaded the images, I would see some amazing 5 inch moth hovering over the kalanchoe or something. I didn't get any astonishing night fauna, but I do think the garden at night is still well worth beholding. Please, do post your favorite garden shots over at http://www.flickr.com/groups/baristanet/pool/ because to me, gardens in any incarnation are always well worth a gander.

Just added some pics, including some flowers I cannot identify.
what pretty garden flowers you have, mrs M! thank you so much for sharing them, and i see that some other fine baristaville photogs have shared garden pix as well.
i don't know what kind of succulent flower that is, that gorgeous fuschia colored "daisy" but i wonder if it is a variety of portulaca, or rock rose? the flower is atypical, but the "leaf" is similar. and that other, round crimson flower is beautiful too. again--i don't know what it is, but i wish i had some growing in my border.
Thanks, Fran. As far as the small red flowers go, someone suggested they might be Sweet William but Sweet William tend to grow in a cluster.
The flowers on the portulaca (I Googled) seem to have different petals than the ones I have. Mine are more "daisyish," as you pointed out.
But solving the mystery is part of the fun!
Mrs. M, that pinkish succulent looks like an ice plant (aka delosperma, I think). The "ornamental cabbage" also looks like a succulent- a sempervivum (aka hen & chicks). Thanks for posting the photos- I enjoyed looking through them.
Thanks, Coco! I do believe you got it.
