Murder Victim Left Letters To Children

Thursday, July 3, 2008

Funeral coverage from the Star Ledger...

The letters, dated the same month in 2007 as a restraining order issued against the father now accused of killing Paul, were for the first time read aloud by a friend, Rodney Campbell, during a tearful and packed service today at Christ Church in Montclair.

"My boy and smiley face...a.k.a. spiderman, you know I'm going to miss you," Paul wrote in a letter dated Oct. 7, 2007 to her son, whose father is now a fugitive. "Like I told your sister, if you're reading this, then something must have happened to me.

"I love you...even though you don't let me kiss you anymore. You say there's too many germs in kissing. You are so funny...Know that I am in a better place. I love you. Mommy."

How utterly and heartbreakingly tragic. The picture of that poor young girls face speaks volumes.

I can't even beging to imagine how she will recover from this episode.

Heartfelt thoughts to the children of Monica Paul.

No words!! to describe what the children might've felt!

No words, STILL!!....being a Mom and feeling the need to write them!!

My heart aches!!!!

Essence looks completely shattered. How completely overwhelmingly sad.
I am so very sorry for this family.

That girls face will stay with me.

And while I've been swayed to be against the death penalty, someone always makes me reconsider.

For this creep, I wish we were in Texas.

Simply heart-rending.

I passed Christ Church today just as the services were ending. I hadn't seen the post here but from the crowd & the heavy police presence I knew immediately what was going on.

The image of that hearse in the midday sun, ready to carry Monica from the church to her final resting place on such a summer's day, will haunt me.

I don't even know how to express how sad this makes me. What can possibly be worse than this? What the hell is going on in our society? Self-centeredness and disregard for others have become epidemic.

May Monica rest in peace and may her children be surrounded by good people as they weather the terrible storm that they are now caught in.

I am so sorry for those children and all those touched by this horrific act. I have no words to describe th epain I see on that little girls face. May God bless her.

I just looked at the post and photo of Essence which is absolutely tragic and overwhelmingly sad.

I hope this child and her brother will be raised by loving people and will be able to thrive despite this tragedy.

The photo of Essence, and the loving words of her brutally murdered mother, are almost too much to bear. As a member of the Montclair community, I wish so much there was something we could have done to prevent such a tragedy. My thoughts and prayers are with Monica's children, and her family and friends. Also with the kids and families who were caught so randomly in the violence, and the YMCA staff, who I understand should be quite proud of their actions to protect the kids in their care.

There are no words. Nope, none.

Has anyone heard of any update on the whereabouts of Duckett?

Indescribably sad... I think the hearts of the entire community are breaking along with those of Monica's family.

I am disappointed that the Star-Ledger invaded the privacy of this family, and especially the children, during their time of grieving.

I am sending prayers and love to Monica's people. If wishes could bring her back, she'd be with you still.

Kate, I had the same reaction. I think it a little over the line (sensationalist, even) to publish the photos of those poor children at thier mother's funeral.
