It's official: if you're looking for love, New Jersey is the place to be. Hoboken takes top honors as the dating capital of the United States. Even closer to Baristaville, Newark and East Orange made CNN's top 25 list.

Newark?
20. Newark, NJ
21. East Orange, NJ
Thanks to the murder rate, there are more singles every year in those towns. I'm sure the national audience will recognize the "diverse neighborhoods" and "the Crossroads of New Jersey" as one happy melting pot. And what are the prices/availability for the small patch of Victorian homes in Forest Hill and brownstones of Lincoln Park? Thats like describing all of West Orange is like Llewellyn Park.
Ahhh, love in Newark. It's an age-old story.
Boy meets girl.
Boy fathers illegitimate child with girl.
Boy gets a cap busted in his a**
Newark is probably on the top of the list of places with the lowest divorce rate, too. C'est l'amour!
Do they include all the people in jails who are available singles?
hey, single is single. sometimes an incarcerated partner is the best kind to have. anyway, can baristanet start a story re: none of our starbucks are slated to close so shout hallelujah come on get happy.
The next time I hear someone talk about how Montclair is full of "progressive" people I'll send them a link to this page so they can read your comments. Everyone should familiarize themselves with the liberal racism of the bourgoisie.
Wow I wonder what criteria they used to determine the rankings? EO for example shows a 3447 diversity rating compared to 100 national average. I find that a little hard to believe because the higher the rating is meant to indicate a higher rate of diversity and EO is NOT very diverse. Maybe it will be someday but its not today. They also show below average test scores in readng so if you are looking for a single who cannot read thats a good place to start. I am not bashing East Orange, I live near the border and there are some beautiful neighborhoods and I have friends who teach at the high school but serioulsy there is no way it should make a top place for singles list unless the sole criteria is the number of singles.
"sometimes an incarcerated partner is the best kind to have"
- At least you would always know where they were.
- Low chance of them cheating (at least with the opposite sex)
- Probably in good shape since all they do is work out all day
- A good match if you are looking for a partner who wears orange
PeoplesRepublicofForestSt, I concur with you on some points especially if one were to read this thread along with the one regarding the newsletter from the mayor of Belmar. You should consider two things. One is that this blog is open and Baristaville is not limited to Montclair residents only. Secondly, a large number of posters here are far from liberal or progressive. In fact, they're downright reactionary.
PeoplesRepublicofForestSt, do I know you?
"sometimes an incarcerated partner is the best kind to have"
Nothing better than a captive audience.
For me, I'm glad I am no longer single. I hated dating.
Mikeypal, hie yourself off to Hoboken! Quickly, man! Feel free to move there, even.
PeoplesRepublic..., however, is probably somewhat on the mark. The worst racist-seeming behavior and talk often stems from those who can afford to live in liberal enclaves and are prone to self-congratulation about their claimed politics. The verbal lynch mob that formed over the former site of the Marlboro Inn, for example, was surely composed mostly of folks who claim liberal (or mikey-like "progressive," even) politics. And some of the same posters seem positively happy to toss away the Constitution when the issue of someone scuzzy like Duckett comes up.
Spots, you only heighten the offense, so to speak, by noting that the site is open to non-Montclair residents. Trying to impute virtue by way of residence, I suppose, as if such territoriality guarantees liberalism. Thereby separating yourself (of course) from the accusation of being a reactionary. Such hubris is beneath you, but probably quite appropriate when voiced by, say, jerseygurl.
Cathar, the last time I looked he wasn't beneath me. I would bet there are just as many "reactionaries" in Montclair as anywhere else. On the flip side, I'll bet there are even some very nice progressive folk living in Clifton. I grew up there, so now you have one more personal sling with which to hurl your insults at me.
cathy, you're a boob. I wrote that Baristaville (an imaginary construct) is not limited to Montclair residents only. Stating that this site is open means people from anywhere with an internet connection can post.
A true boob art thou. You remind me of Sir Digby Chicken Caesar.
Then who was, uh, beneath you the last time you bothered to look, jerseygurl?
I like Clifton, however. It actually lives and deals daily and thrives with and amidst all the "diversity" Montlclair claims unto itself.
You toss out the word "reactionary" because it's seen as a slur. (Certainly it's seen as an aspersion here by all the local "progressives.") Have you ever considered, instead, typing "conservative?" You know, like Robert Taft, Barry Goldwater, Russell Kirk, Willian Pitt father and son and so many other political greats. Or is your own political vision just so narrowminded? If so, then I might be tempted someday soon to suggest that the only soul beneath you (philosophically, at any rate) is laserboy.
Spots, being termed a boob by one so self-convinced of his/her own moral superiority like yourself is an honor.
And to be fair, I have a hard time conceiving of you as, well, beneath jerseygurl.
Cathar - I put "reactionaries" because I was quoting from Spot's post. My vision has nothing wrong with it other than ecroaching middle age is forcing me to wear reading glasses.
Last time I looked Lasermikey wasn't beneath me either. I like Clifton. I like Montclair as a place to live because I can walk to the train. Perhaps it is you who has the more narrow vision.
cathy, again, I made no moral pronouncement. My post was a correction to the Forest Street poster who erroneously assumed that everyone who posts on this site is a liberal from Montclair.
Vous ?tes embrouill?.
Perhaps then, jerseygurl, nothing is ever beneath you?
(If mikey ever was, however, I would much recommend an anthrax dip ASAP.)
Currently only my sofa.
You're pretty good, lass, and I don't say that to just every hopelessly misguided, fecklessly liberal crank who posts here.
Obvious problem: They seem to be assessing 'dating-ness' with the percentage of the population that's single. Just as unemployment numbers only include people who are actively looking for work (and ignore stay at home spouses), one should be looking at singles who are actively trying to change that status. Might not make a difference in Hoboken, but it might in DC, for example.
Hoboken, yes. Newark,no.Last time I did jury duty I made the mistake of taking a short walk during the lunch break in Newark. I came very close to getting my ass kicked in the parking lot of Wendys only one block from the courthouse. Love is in the air!!

Newark ? Okay.
