Singer/songwriter Katie Reider passed away this week. The 30-year-old Montclair resident, who had roots in Cincinnati, had been fighting a rare tumor. From the Cincinnati Enquirer...
In May, Reider fan and friend Lauren Fernandes launched a Web site, 500Kin365.org, where fans could donate $1 for a digital compilation of nine of Reider's original songs. All proceeds from the compilation and private donations will continue to help Reider's family pay for medical bills and funeral arrangements, which are still pending.

Very saddening.
Painful and tragic. My condolences to her family and friends.
What a heartbreaking story. I've been listening to a couple of Katie's songs as I work, and they're lovely. She was a beautiful, vivacious woman and in the video on her site you can see she gave everything to her performances.
Some people can pack more living into 30 years than most people fit into 100, and she certainly looks as though she did. Her music will live on for her family, friends, and fans.
Hearing about the loss of someone so young and vibrant puts each of us in touch with our mortality. I've been struggling with a crippling crisis of confidence during the recording of my new album that's been ruining my ability to enjoy my own work as a singer-songwriter. Katie, thank you for reminding me that life is short and there's no time to get lost in this kind of negativity. I am praying for you and your family.
I just read her last blog entry, which was written only a few weeks ago. Even though she was undoubtedly going through a horrible physical and medical ordeal, Katie's words were amazingly positive. I hope that she is in a better place now.
I just finished reading her blog entries about her experiences with her illness in her band myspace page. While I read them, her song "Hard to Let Go" played on her myspace page. Sure beats any obit. I guess it says something about the world we live in when we can be so privy to the lives of our neighbors, thanks to myspace or facebook. What a shame it took her passing for many of us find out about her. My condolences go out to her family and loved ones.
what a tragic and heartbreaking loss for her family and friends and fans. i am listening to her music now and she was so talented. heartfelt condolences and support to those who knew her.
So sad....
I'm sure music helped her during this time.
And that's what she left us.
(.... What I immediately thought is what I always think when I read stories like this: why is it the good ones? The sons of bitches live on, and the good ones get taken away. To this, I realize, you live every day like it's the last. God Bless her soul and family!!)
This story is absolutely heartbreaking. What an amazing young woman, an inspiration. It really reminds me to put my life in the proper perspective. Thank you to Katie, her loving family and friends for sharing her life's journey.
Me too...just read her blog entries and it can't help but break your heart. Ugh, that is awful.
I don't know how I discovered Katie's music but I'm so glad I did. I have followed her brave battle and always felt that she truly lived a life with her glass always being half full.
May she be at peace now..
I don't even remember how I discovered Katie butI am so glad I did.
Life is just not fair. Her glass was always half full.
I hope she is at rest.
This is why everyone on this blog should have life insurance. It's a tragedy, no question, but we've learned from our parents, right? (I'm not a life insurance salesman).
