Very nice. However, how much money does this flaming thrill cost? Could it be put to better use in Montclair?
No. It could not be put to better use.
Fireworks are a tradition.
Long live tradition.
(And who doesn't love fireworks? What's next, are you not gonna put your hand over your heart during the National Anthem?)
Montclair spends way more money on things that are way less important... I vote for the fireworks...
Keep the fireworks, lose the wayfinding signs and artificial turf.
Cut overpaid, underworked BOE staff...
(Unless of course, they know how to design a fireworks show, then re-assign 'em.)

The money came from private sponsors.
"Generous sponsorship support for the July 4th Parade, Picnic and Fireworks has been provided by Applegate Farm Homemade Ice Cream, Church Street Kitchen, Mountainside Hospital."

There are several other sponsors listed.
Cool. As for hand over heart, I don't do that. Will I be forever banned from Baristanet or will I be shunned?
surprise will be shunned and ridiculed by me, yes.
Enjoy the benefits without showing allegiance. Typical.
I'm sure you wouldn't have put your name on the Declaration of Independence-- too scared, knowing it was potentially a death sentence.
But there is surprise, cheering the Founding Fathers on-- "YOU'RE ALL WINNERS!!"
Don't assume anything, "prof" williams. You have no idea of my politics or what I would not do.
Shame on you; you are engaging in fallacious reasoning.
surprise (a real college prof.)
Truthfully, I do not like fireworks. Sounds of explosions aren't exciting to me.. The sounds of war are frightening to me.
"fallacious reasoning"?
I only know what you wrote: "As for hand over heart, I don't do that."
Forgive me for calling you out as someone who enjoys the benefits of a Country but cannot stand to show your allegiance to it.
(And whether or not a "real" college prof, who cares? Some of the dumbest folks I know are college profs.....)
The photo above looks like the what would happen if Cathar and Prof. ever tried to use those handguns they so vigorously defend^^
padre,
Forgive me (us...) for "defending" what our Constitution allows.
(Remember, even the dissenters in Heller held that the 2nd Amd. created an individual right to "bear arms". But don't let facts get in the way of your spew...)
"The eye is lustful because it requires the novel, the unusual, the spectacular...."
How come libs hate guns but love criminals?
They're the first to squawk about tougher gun laws but once we have the criminals behind bars, they (meaning liberal judges) refuse to impose the maximum sentence on them.
From what I understand, the donations that are collected as you enter the fireworks area are put toward next year's July 4th festivities.
Circumstances led me to miss the fireworks this 4th of July weekend - wondering if anyone knows of additional firework shows this summer?
I noticed someone mentioned that Bloomfield's fireworks were postponed until this friday, the 11th, but I don't know the locale.
