Cops' Clean Sweep Outside Bloomfield Laundromat

Wednesday, August 20, 2008

While Bloomfield residents were watching their spin and dry cycles inside the Laundry Zone, a 24-year-old Newark man was hawking heroin outside. Police recently got this accused drug vendor off the streets. From The Star Ledger:

After a number of people called police to report drugs were being sold in the parking lot outside the Laundry Zone along Bloomfield Avenue, police began watching activity in the area, Goul said. The police effort involved a partnership between Montclair and Bloomfield, Goul said.

Friday, officers pulled over Saunders' car after he allegedly attempted to make a sale. They found two bricks, or 100 bags, of heroin, Goul said. The suspect was arrested, and detectives went to his Newark apartment where they seized four more bricks of heroin and $1,019.

He Took a Powder in the Laundry Zone

He was riding dirty, looking washed out and bleached. Sure, the ACLU is in a lather about these methods, but they can get off their soapbox cause this is one ring that has been collared.

Good job BPD.

That laundromat has an indoor playground for kids. It's repulsive that a drug dealer would choose that place to be a pusher.

I'm confused, if heroin a bad thing why are our soldiers being told not to destroy the poppy field and drug labs in Afghanistan and Iraq when they come across them? Why is it acceptable for an enemy we are at war with to manufacture and profit from drugs that wind up on our streets?

Yeah, since our invasion of Afghanistan, it's become the #1 producer of heroin in the world.

Way to go! USA! Numbah Wan!

Someone comes in to our neighborhood and sells HEROIN ON THE STREET, SO WHAT SHOULD WE DO WITH PEOPLE LIKE THIS invite them into our homes? They don?t care about anybodies liberal feel good ideas, they would cut your heart out for a dollar, yes it is very DISGUSTING.

Er, Danny Boo, hasn't Afghan ALWAYS been the #1 producer of heroin?

well Mojo, our military is trained to treat these people with respect and not to disturb their "business" so I guess our police should be doing that was well. It's not a liberal idea, it is a standing order to the US Military. And yes - it is disgusting.

You seem to compare my disgust with drug dealers in my neighborhood to my backing of the US government policy on a global scale, far from it, I am completely fed up with our government. But what I am really upset about is the way our local area with all its wealth still has a very big drug problem. And your condescending tone is typical of what I consider, liberal.

Actually no Steve. Prior to Afghanistan taking the crown in 2002, the biggest producer was, as J Peterman put it, "You likely know it as Myanmar but it will always be Burma to me."

Burma lost it's title due to a 6 year period of bad growing conditions, however the Afghanistan crop has doubled in size from 2000 to 2007 which 'experts' now say accounts for about 92% of global heroin production, ensuring that unless intervention takes place and the crops are destroyed, Afghanistan will never fall to second place.

Almost half the Afghanistani GDP is from heroin, is believed by many including Interpol, to fund the Taliban resistance.

How we can claim to be fighting the Taliban and leave this crop alone is beyond me.
