Hug A Honeybee

Friday, August 8, 2008

The big buzz in Montclair this weekend is on Walnut Street, at this Saturday's all day HoneyBee Fest, produced by Sally and Will Reinhardt of The Bread Company. Beginning at 10am, there'll be exhibits, bee art, and information about the dynamic force of these superpollinators, organic honey-made sweets and treats, and you'll learn why the Reinhardts have a passion for beekeeping in their own back yard. They're fuzzy, cuddly (sort of) and fascinating.

Enjoy live music, talk to bee experts, honey sampling, beeswax candle rolling, fresh bee flowers, honey drinks, B Shirts - B Bags - Bees Bees Bees! "Oh Honey, Honey, come join the fun," says Sally.

"Yes there really are Barista Bees, they live right here in my back yard, and I live in Baristaville after all ..........and whats so special about these amazing little creatures is that their HONEY is so incredibly fragrant and sweeter than all the fruits of summer in one jar," Sally told us.

"Word is getting around about the Montclair Honey scene......there are a lot of new Back Yard Bee Keepers around...and following the disastrous problems bees have been suffering from worldwide, Colony Collapse Disorder in particular, there's a movement to try to bring back the bees."

Read more about Sally's favorite hobby in NJMonthly.

C'mon down to celebrate the many aspects of backyard beekeeping all day long:

There was a virtual swarm of honey bees festooning my gargantuan Thorn Apple plants this morning.

There must have been about 50 of them, 2 to 3 per blossom, busily gathering nectar from these beautiful and highly toxic, hallucenogenic plants.

I meant pollen of course..

MellonBrush, bees gather both nectar and pollen. We'd be up a creek without 'em.

STL,

Right you are!

We get the occasional hummingbird over at our honeysuckle and trumpet vine plants. They look like giant bumblebees when you first see them flitting about at dusk.

Will Buzz Aldrin be there?
