Next strategic step in the old guy's race to the presidency? Embracing the blogosphere. From The Washington Post:
On McCain's Web site, visitors are invited to "Spread the Word" about the presumptive Republican nominee by sending campaign-supplied comments to blogs and Web sites under the visitor's screen name. The site offers sample comments ("John McCain has a comprehensive economic plan . . .") and a list of dozens of suggested destinations, conveniently broken down into "conservative," "liberal," "moderate" and "other" categories. Just cut and paste.
And there are prizes for participants!
People who sign up for McCain's program receive reward points each time they place a favorable comment on one of the listed Web sites (subject to verification by McCain's webmasters). The points can be traded for prizes, such as books autographed by McCain, preferred seating at campaign events, even a ride with the candidate on his bus, known as the Straight Talk Express, according to campaign spokesman Brian Rogers."Anytime you're getting supporters activated into online communities or taking other actions to spread the word, that's a win," Rogers says.

T'ain't nothing new. The neocons have been doing that for GWB for years.
I believe the expression is "concern troll".
STL, but with frequent post rewards? Don't post you own thoughts when you can earn a toaster by posting ours. Some say shoot all the lawyers, I say add half the marketing people to the conga line.
you=your
Jeez, I hope the old fahts don't have to log in to the blogs to spread the word -- they forget their passwords daily.
Hmmm, on second thought...
I predict a record-breaking amount of money is going to be spent in a futile attempt to convince Americans who, more so than any other election year I think already have their mind made up who they are going to vote for(or against).
Doesnt sound desperate at all
McCain seems increasingly irrelevant.
MB,
I think perhaps McCain can next create a set of Squirrel children's books?
RH,
He's a lightweight compared to the chipmunks that were at my NYS campsite.
Go to the web site and choose between the following:
Basic Style:
John McCain has a comprehensive economic plan that will create millions of good American jobs, ensure our nation's energy security, get the government's budget and spending practices in order, and bring relief to American consumers. Learn how the McCain Economic Plan will help bring reform, prosperity and peace to America.
More Accurate:
John McCain has a comprehensive economic plan that will create millions of good American jobs, ensure our nation's energy security, get the government's budget and spending practices in order, and bring relief to American consumers. Learn how the McCain Economic Plan will help bring reform, prosperity and peace to America. Obama's plan is slightly better.
Fortune Cookie:
John McCain has a comprehensive economic plan that will create millions of good American jobs, ensure our nation's energy security, get the government's budget and spending practices in order, and bring relief to American consumers. Learn how the McCain Economic Plan will help bring reform, prosperity and peace to America in bed.
Better Fortune Cookie:
John McCain has a comprehensive economic plan that will create millions of good American jobs, ensure our nation's energy security, get the government's budget and spending practices in order, and bring relief to American consumers. Learn how the McCain Economic Plan will help bring reform, prosperity and peace to America except in bed.
Obama's site only offers one word:
CHANGE...
And one phrase:
CHANGE you can believe in!
(But MB, if McCain is so irrelevant, why isn't The One leading in the polls? Shouldn't he of Blessed Birth be trouncing the old, chipmunk faced guy?)
The points can be traded for prizes ... even a ride with the candidate on his bus, known as the Straight Talk Express.
*Riders must have revoked drivers licenses.
The chipmunks @ Forth Lake, NY are way more bad-assed than McCain.
.. except for the one that got snagged by a hawk early one morning..
Spot...u r getting older than mclame with your tired use neocon. Please enlighten us as to your definition of a neocon?
I'm not a neocon, I'm just a plain old con.
Lookee at Iceman with the txtspeech.
Neocon 101
Conservative ? Specifically a "fusionist" conservative of the National Review - Heritage Foundation mold. Someone who believes in traditional morality and capitalism, and the need for a limited government to allow both to flourish.
Neoconservative ? A "neocon" is more inclined than other conservatives toward vigorous government in the service of the goals of traditional morality and pro-business policies. Tends to favor a very strong foreign policy of America as well.
As long as cons and neocons continue to elect or appoint a perennial assortment of political leaders who assume the stance of a protective, stern, rectitudinous father figure, but who later somehow stumble and land in some kind of seedy or unseemly sexual or monetary cookie jar, I'll be wary of that particular tribal watering hole.
Liberals, on the other hand, seem to pick leaders who are prissy, tiresome, and preachy, but somehow, these woosie ones stay pretty clean.
....Now comes the frothy retort where Cathar talks about Chappaquiddick and Monica.
Too bad, I'd prefer sitting back and reading his take on Herbert "market crash" Hoover.
JP: and now we have the previously squeaky clean- seeming John Edwards!
It's too bad. I admire Elizabeth Edwards and think she doesn't deserve to deal with this after what she's already been through.
JP - I'd prefer reading Cathar's take on McCain's policies. So far all he can do is trash Obama and bless the oil industry and the pertoluem institute for having worked so hard to earn their money. I know McCain is running in THIS century, maybe he can provide some current information regarding his staunch defense of said candidate.
After having been repeatedly disappointed with the Democratic candidates over the years, but often voting for them anyway, usually as the lesser of two evils, I can't vote for Senator Obama this year. More a question about his lack of experience than a racial statement. John McCain seems pathetic, and not actually campaigning either. Perhaps he feels he can win by default. I dislike neocons very much, but label me conservative regardless.
John McCain is better than Cats.
This is really pathetic, but then again his whole campaign has been pathetic.
"Liberals, on the other hand, seem to pick leaders who are prissy, tiresome, and preachy, but somehow, these woosie ones stay pretty clean."
Pretty clean? You mean like Bill Clinton, Jesse Jackson, Elliot Spitzer, and now John Edwards?
If that's how you define clean, give me dirty any day!
These guys make Richard Nixon look good, as if that was possible.
Just remember to speak into McCain's good ear. And don't expect a wave, he can't lift his arm. He must be trolling the internet to find out what people really think. Sorry. He doesn't know what the internet is, but he has advisors working on it.
Wow Prof williams, I would have thought you would support one of your own, not a W. Bush clone. surprising to me. Unless you make tons of money and are looking for the current tax breaks.....
Obviously, I'm for Obama. People say he doesn't have the experience, either leading big corporations (the U.S.) or in foreign affairs. What surprises me is the pushback for someone who is new. Isn't America about pushing the limits, trying something new, meeting new people, and going in a direction we haven't been? McCain, although an exemplary American, is (let's face it), someone born in or mother's generation. We don't live in that anymore. We don't need an octegenarian in office. I think we need someone a little more relevant. I realize many of montclair will be hurt by Obana's tax plolicies, and will vote with their wallet to save about $10,000-30,000 in taxes. They don't really care about the nation after all, they care about Montclair Kimberly Academy. But there are those who care about the nation, even though the tax consequences are not favorable. Count me among those.
I simply can't vote for an old fart whose campaign is based on "same old". I need a young man in charge, pushing for something this great nation has not seen. I don't care really what it is, but it can't possibly be any worse than W. Bush. Clearly W. Bush should have stayed as a governor; the presidency is over this drunk's head.
This post may see the response of those set in their ways, or those very wealthy, or possibly even those in the bible set (exist in NJ?). But without even a hope of reform/change, we will get nowhere.
Speaking of trolling, Easy Rider...
Yes, Kate, looking for a response. Haven't found any.
ER: I'm not a fan of McCain. But with that said, you discredit yourself by making fun of his injuries from his time as a POW. Not funny.
Everyone knows McCain has a chance because the homophobe bible belt supports Republicans. (oh, and the rich). Have you ever been out to the midwest? I mean really been to a bar with a "No fighting sign"? These are Bush/McCain supporters. It's very basic. These people don't understand the world, their personal economic condition rarely changes, and the voting office is also the library/firehouse/DMV/Immedicenter. You think I joke, but unless you've been there, you don't know. This is how ignoramous' win elections - from the uneducated. Look at Bush (with Rove's brilliant help)......Put an anti-gay question on the vote, and get twice as many liberal hating people out.
Kate....if McCain is going to use his POW time as a "plus", then it's fair game. Usually I wouldn't bring it up, and I acknowledge my own cheapness.
Cheap = boring.
But I'm sure others here who will be happy to bat you around for a while when they read your posts.
Oops. I meant "others here will be happy..."
Boring? I baited you. You're easy. I'm trying to bring out ROC, or some other ego-centric republican.
