Broad Street in Bloomfield Center boasts more than great shopping on Wednesday nights in the summer. Every Wednesday at 6 pm the street is lined with meticulously restored vintage cars.

While the police block off the street, passers-by can admire and inspect the cars, many of which have their hoods lifted so their engines can be seen. Remember the old days, when cars had 8 cylinders? More info here

Great to know there's something to do other than shop in Bloomfield Center.

"Great shopping" might be stretching things a bit, ya think?

There was a vintage car display on the boardwalk in Wildwod last summer. One was a Chevy Nova-a car my best friend drove when we were in college. You know you're reallly old when a car you rode in turns up in a vintage car display.

I want my Nash Metropolitan.

Back in 1975 I had an opportunity to buy a "71" Chevelle 454, beautiful car, 4 speed low gear tranny, cowl induction, blue printed engine, IMMMMaculate. The problem was, when my father found out what car I was borrowing money for he hit the roof and cancelled the loan. I can't even look at what they're worth now and the sad part was the guy that bought the car a week later mostly ruined it within 3 months, and then totaled in a race.
It's what keeps me occasionally donating to the lottery.

JP - a Nash and a Rickenbacker?? I used to want a pink and black Metropolitan.

Wish I still had my first car..a '59 Austin Healy bug eyed Sprite. The Lucas electronics tormented me when it would just stop dead. It still was a chick magnet.

This site lists a lot of car shows,
http://www.njcarshow.com/
Most shows are fun and speaking with the owners is very educational for all those wannabe gear heads. Also, every saturday night you can check out, The Whiskey Cafe located at 1050 Wall Street West, in Lyndhurst, Near Medieval Times, Big show, Lots of cars. (If you deal with the music from the 50s)

My first car was an Opel GT Sport - it was gold colored with black pleather interior - I thought I was so cool - LOL!!

When I moved I sold it to my brother who promptly wrapped it around a tree.

My second car was an "original" orange VW bug that I had for many years before the engine siezed and I just did not have the money to fix it.

I wish I had both of them now.

My car in high school was a '59 MGA. Oh boy...I had so much fun driving it around town (it was never in good enough shape to drive on the highway). My parents made me sell it before I went to college cause it was such a money pit!

I hated my first car but it was all I could afford as a 19 yo college student. It was a fugly pea green soup 1974 Dodge Dart with a "slant six" engine. I think I paid $1,900 for it and IMHO, that was overpriced!

Then when I started working, I went and splurged on a 1981 light metallic blue Camaro! After about a year, I removed the factory tires and bought cool raised letter racing-style tires. I miss those days! I think gas was like 60 cents a gallon then?

My first car was a royal blue Ford Mustang. Prior to having my own car, my dad let me borrow his dark green Pontiac (no power steering) on occasion. One such Saturday, I came home, drove in the driveway, and hit the gas instead of the brakes. I drove right through the garage door. I was fine but the car needed much work. For years, my nickname was "Crash."

The car show is fun, but there should be more refreshment stands and activities for the kids. I think they are biased against foreign vintage cars...they never seem to win, even though they seem to be the nicer cars.

Yeah Jerseygurl. Those Metropolitans are still on my list too.
I like Studebaker Larks also.
And a Rick would look good in the passenger seat, either way. Seeya, I'm going downstairs to plug in my 330.
