We had driven down to the shore to see the waves. took some pretty cool pictures, then driving home in the storm was scary

We were hanging out in Amish Country and visiting a farm in Paradise, PA, when the farmers told us about the hurricane that was expected to hit the East Coast (apparently all the way out to Lancaster County PA). They were worried it could ruin all their corn this year. We were supposed to camp out that night but we hopped in the car and sped out towards Cleveland instead. I don't think it was too bad for them though, hopefully.

We got off pretty easy. Backyard and deck were a little messy this morning (lots of leaves, branches and junk strewn about) but that's about it. Hard to believe there was storm here yesterday...this was a gorgeous day.

Weathered the storm and "gutsy" winds with little or no harm, other than a flooded garden. Was surprised and snippy when our power went out today, a day after the storm. Drat the sunshine, the blue sky, and gentle breezes. Must have been too much happiness for those damn PSE& G gremlins. They always keep us on our toes.

Fran, Would you like to take a pic of my basement? I'm still pumping water out. Seriously, thanks for the great pics.

We lost power from 7:30 on Saturday night until 12:30 PM Sunday, about 17 hours.

A giant tree came down on Carteret St near GR / Blmfd border due to soggy gound, not wind. It took out the power lines.

Luckily for us our basement didn't flood since we had no electricity to run sump pumps. We just got one tiny puddle. I think the ground was so dry, it soaked it all up. Thank goodness.

Went for a bike ride yesterday and had a 'blowout' on Highland Ave near the Iris Gardens. The report was so loud, I thought somebody was shooting at me! I put spare tube in but my tire is toast. It looks like somebody stuck a knife in it.

How come, every time I get a flat, it's always on the rear tire? Whoa baby!

I couldn't get REO Speedwagon / "Ridin' The Storm Out" out of my head on Saturday night.

Then, in one of those Jungian concidences, REO Speedwagon came onto PBS Soundstage on Channel 50, which as you all know is broadcast from the campus of Montclair State.

nellie, so sorry to hear that you are pumping water. how is it now, any improvement? did anything get ruined? hope it all dries up nicely.

When we got hit by Floyd we opened up our sewer cap and all the water, 2 feet of it, flowed right out of the basement and into the sewer.

My neighbor convinced me that opening the line would be a 'good thing' and he was right, although I'm not sure I would do this again or recommend it to anyone else.

Fran, thanks for asking. I'm hoping things will be high and dry again by tonight. The pump is pumping while I'm at work so I hope it is working, as well.

I'm afraid that rats will scoot in if I open the sewer cap. Rodents: my biggest phobia!

Opening up the sewer line probably releases a lot of sewer gas. Sounds too dangerous.

.. Yeah, I wouldn't do it again. I guess the hydraulic flow was in the right direction, out, and filled the line with the water that was in my basement and no gas could come in ..
