Grab your pencils and paintbrushes, your digital cameras and darkroom supplies (wait, does anyone still have those?) -- two local contests are offering Baristavillians an opportunity to reap the benefit of their artistic talent:
The Glen Ridge Historical Society's 2008 photo contest is open to any current GR resident, with prizes for shots that best capture "the historic beauty of Glen Ridge and the spirit of its people." Deadline is Sept. 26, with winners announced after the Society's annual walking tour on Oct. 18. Entry forms are at the Municipal Building and GR Public Library. The rules: Photos must have been taken within the borders of GR, be printed 8x10 (color or b/w) and mounted. Four categories (private homes, public buildings/spaces, people/events and pictures by professional photographers) will each have separate prizes for best photo by an adult and best by someone under 18.
And The Comic Book Market in Bloomfield is sponsoring a drawing contest that is open to all high school and college students. Submitted art will be displayed around the store and there's a bash planned for Halloween -- that's when winners will be announced and cash will be awarded. Deadline is Oct 28. Details on the store's site.
