Man Bites Cattle-Prods Dog

Tuesday, September 16, 2008

The New Jersey SPCA raided a home on Central Avenue in Montclair two weeks ago and confiscated a cattle prod and a slingshot allegedly used to train a small Silky Terrier, according to Montclair police reports.

Montclair police chief David Sabagh, who confirmed a tip we got about the August 29 incident, said that according to the report, the dog was being trained by a Pennsylvania animal trainer named Jeffrey Loy, who runs the Center for Animal Behavioral Research. Loy's website uses the slogan "The Bite Stops Here." Sabagh said Loy was brought in after the dog bit the woman of the house.

The dog was removed from the house by the Humane Police but no arrests have been made, and the incident is still being investigated by the NJSPCA. Loy has not returned our call.

Baristanet was down for a few very tense delirium-tremor minutes this morning. It was awful. I had to just work.

oops, meant delirium tremens.

sounds like it's time to train the trainer and owner. wretched.

frightening, eh? Not knowing what to do, I started to leave political comments on the town's waste disposal voicemail.

Let's not get partisan about garbage, ROC. I think we can all agree: waste not, want not.

Though McCain was recently seen tossing a Twix wrapper onto the ground.

As a crack investigative team from the Washington Post reported the scandal, the Twix bar was given to him by Palin who bought it with coins she found in the desk drawer of the Governor's desk which she did not claim on her income tax.

I heard the Twix bar was ultimately sold on eBay.

President Obama, then created a new Federal Office of Twix Wrapper Management (now the largest Federal Agency).

From his Rose Garden speech:

"Real Change does not allow Hard Working Americans to be betwixt a rock and a hard place..."

Unfortunately, his teleprompter broke down and he was hustled off the stage.

But you see Mrs. Martta, the twix wrapper didn't receive enough qualifying bids therefore the auction was withdrawn. Just like the auction of the Alaska state jet.

It did eventually get sold though. And at a huge loss.

More Republican lies and deceit.

Palin said that she didn't want the Twix bar but she kept it anyway.

-----------------------

Mr. Loy should be ashamed of himself for using a cattle prod on a small dog. May he burn in hell.

Now there's an Obama ad out on the subject. The mock him for not being able to open the wrapper on his own. The McCain camp issued a press release explaining that since the VC broke his knuckles 739 times he's not able to open any wrappers.

Back to the original post: I know what I'd like to do with that cattle prod.

Cattle prods should not used on ANY dogs!

Sickening about the cattle prod.

Obama then banned both Twix bars AND cattle prods.

"Real change can come without chocolate bars and iron-- both relics of an old style politic..."

T'was the day when slingshots were rather commonly found in young boys' back pockets. They were pretty easy to make, too.

Now they're used in dog training? Must be because kids have access to better, heavier ordnance even at a young age.

Mrs. Martta, can we use cattle prods on liberals?

LOL, just the frothing ones.

Not to defend him. But his site says he only takes the worst most hopeless cases. Since those kind of biting dogs usually get put down. Which is better? Cattle-prod training or getting put down.

Jeff Loy trained one of my dogs many years ago and i have the scar on my thumb from a dog bite to prove it

Can we use cattle prods on liberals?
-----------------------

If you're sellin', I'm buyin'

ROC - there are many options other than death cattle prod training. Typical right wing black or white response which completely ignores all the other centrist options.

And then can we use cattle prods on wishy-washy, well-meaning, would-be wags like walleroo?

This is ok, right?

Tasering violent people is ok, right?

"ROC - there are many options other than death cattle prod training. Typical right wing black or white response which completely ignores all the other centrist options."

Well, if were going to put into political terms, gurl. I could say the opposite. "Typical liberal response - lot's of 'grey area' that AIN'T gonna happen - and the problem remains"

Ask any animal shelter. Ain't nobody adopting dogs who are habitual bitters. They wait in cages and are THEN put down.

I have one of those dogs. Rehabilitate sans prod.

I note that this incident happened more than 2 weeks ago. Yet is only posted as an item today. Given what has passed for "news" on this site during that period......

"I have one of those dogs. Rehabilitate sans prod."

Can you take a few million more?

Did you mean you have a habitual biter, jerseygurl, or just a silky terrier?

If the former, the situation hints at why you post so often and so futilely here, in a doomed attempt to match the signal successes of your pooch.

I love my pooch. He was a stray, abused and abandoned and wound up on death row in a shelter. Yes, he did bite when frightened or his food was threatened. Considering he was half starved, had huge scars on his face and a homemade tatoo, it's not surprising. It took some time and training without physical abuse. Just watch an episode of Cesar Milan. It's possible.

Jeff Loy trained one of my mothers dogs about 11 years ago and since then the dog has bitten me and a few others several times. I have the scar to prove that my moms dog is Jeff Loy approved! How awful....We always suspected that this guy was not the ordinary dog trainer with his unconventional abusive ways...this puts the nail in the coughin

frothing?! drink!!!

(hrh does it count if it's not cathar?)

DactylsKeeper,

Your mother's dog has been biting people for 11 years and she's not doing anything about it? Sounds irresponsible.

It is refreshing that jerseygurl was willing to work with her dog. Many dogs are adopted from shelters and quickly returned when they're not "perfect." Shelter dogs often have issues--many that have developed simply from the stress of being in a shleter--and new guardians need to realize these animals need time to adjust and reaize they are safe. it is no different with many cats.

I agree, Nellie. To take a dog from an abusive environment and then to inflict further abuses on it is just reprehensible. There are other ways re: Cesar Millan-style training. Also, there's clicker training which has shown to be very effective.

When my adopted dog bit me and would not calm down, I brought him to Hal Wheeler's on route 22 in Cedar Grove for a "free assessment". After choking the dog half to death, Hal proceeded to inform me that there was no hope for my adopted pet. "just put him down" were the exact words he used as I recall. I didn't listen to him and gave my new dog more time and most of all love. Once he knew that I was not giving up on him no matter what, he turned around and is a wonderful and devoted companion. Its about commitment. Plain and simple. Believe me it is worth the effort because shelter dogs appreciate the comforts of home that they, the lucky ones, have been given. Cattle prods are not the answer even in the worst cases.

When worlds collde....

Nellie,

We used to have a cat that would try to scratch us whenever we got close. After a few months of patience and love he totally changed and never tried to scratch again.

I think patience and love can turn just about any animal around over time.

Now let's discuss moose abuse.

I agree wholeheartedly, Mellon.

It even works on moose.

Frightening to read how many of you own/know dogs that bite! Hopefully, you are NOT the ones who let your dogs run without leashes in Edgemont or Brookdale Parks...Then again, you just might be the ones who care more about your dogs than kids, and scoffs (at the very least) when asked to leash them...

Frightening to read how many of you own/know dogs that bite! Hopefully, you are NOT the ones who let your dogs run without leashes in Edgemont or Brookdale Parks...Certainly you could NOT be the folks who seem to care more about animals than kids, and scoff (at the very least) when asked to leash your little snarlers...

Thank you, Baristanet! As a result of your courageous online media feature, "Man (Bites) Cattle Prods Dog", a number of victimized dog owners and other local professionals have come forward and have contacted the NJ State SPCA Humane Police and me directly about their experiences with the animal behaviorist, Jeffrey Loy (Center for Animal Behavioral Research), and, as a result, additional charges have been filed for NJSA Title 4 animal cruelty violations. The invitation is still open to anyone who may want to come forward to tell their story.
