In the last few weeks Haiti, the poorest country in the western hemisphere, was hit hardest by four tropical storms and hurricanes. Saint Peter Claver Parishioners for Peace and Justice with the support and assistance of Father José will be co-sponsoring a fundraiser with the First Congregational Church in Montclair. The goal? To raise enough money to send at least one container of much-needed goods to Haiti. A large truck container costs $6000 to rent and ship. The event is tomorrow night, Friday, September 26th, at 7:30 p.m. A free film screening of "The Price of Sugar" will be shown. There will also be music and Haitian food served. The event itself is free, but monetary donations are welcome. Additionally, donations of new or gently worn light clothing, new underwear, rice, beans, unopened/unexpired pediatric and prenatal vitamins, Motrin, Tylenol are being accepted. More info here.

i made my costco run this morning and brought supplies over to st. peter claver church on elmwood avenue a little while ago. they were so gracious and warm, and really glad to get the donations, which they had started to stack by a side office door. i'm going to get a few more details from them in a little while, and i'll post them here. anything you can give will help--even if it's just two or three dollars towards the cost of the shipping.
