Sunday Night Just Got Harder

Sorry but Sunday is for sports as far as I'm concerned.

The Cowboys and the Eagles both lost in painful upsets, yippie!

My sympathies to the Met's fans in the house. Not only did they miss the playoffs but the way it happened really made the Final Game ceremony a very glum occasion.

I will watch Life tonight though. All the drama of Law & Order with oodles of snark.

I usually watch Entourage. I liked the British sketch comedy show that HBO aired last night after Entourage. It made me laugh out loud.

I have AMC on Free on Demand with Cablevision so I dont even have to Tivo Mad Men. I can watch Mad Men the day after, and all this season's episodes are on the Free on Demand. Very convenient!

Dexter. Californication. Madmen on Tivo.

For shame, Baristane, for shame! You've omitted the best show, 'Dexter'.

Sunday has turned out to be a tricky day. Obviously football is the only thing that should be on the television from 1-7, but I have currently found myself more conflicted then ever. I do consider myself a diehard "football" fan, but I cannot seem to pass up the likes of Tru Blood and Entourage.

I watch these shows from 9-10:30 and end up missing half of the Sunday night game. Does this make me less of a fan? Perhaps, but I just cannot go without watching these two shows.

I think that it is also interesting to note that Sunday and Monday night are the only two times of the week that I ever have the television on. To me everything else on T.V. is crap and I would rather be involved in a good book. I would venture to say that many other households work this way as well?

Not really a TV person but do like the programming on HBO on Sunday nights: Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Wire. But most of the time, a book wins out.

The good news and the bad news of being a Comcast cable subscriber: thumbs-up for On Demand, thumbs-down for frequent breakup of digital picture and the dreaded "One moment please" message.

In addition to the three shows Barista mentioned, last night was also the premiere of Desperate Housewives and The Amazing Race. The hardcore tv addicts have multiple Tivos to solve the common problem.

Of course, the real problem is finding time to watch everything. Here's a free idea for a venture capitalist: edit down shows to 5-minute (:30 min shows) and 10-minute (1:00 hr shows) summaries and make them available to on-demand cable services.

I almost never watch anything without Tivoing it first, to avoid the commercials. This is especially true of sporting contests, which I often start an hour or so late just so I can get a jump on the ads. Last night I missed the entire Mets game, but managed to remain ignorant of the outcome until cuddling up to the DVR late in the evening for 45 minutes of compressed agony. (Strike one, strike two, foul, ball, ball, payoff pitch...) All that sadness at once, like a melancholy firehose.

Mad Men on demand. But I keep forgetting to watch it!

I'll pass on the three above, and take Dexter and True Blood instead.

I still miss "Soprano Sundays." Sigh.

Californication is the worst show. Another dry piece of turd from Duchovny. Weeds is far superior.

Pass on all of 'em.

Although I dvr Entourage and enjoy it.

I do like movies. Problem is that HBO shows the same movies over and over and over again ad nauseum.

I read too but don't knock Californication. It's got the wittiest dialogue on TV.

I've never seen it. Don't have SHO.

It's very very witty although the new season opener was a huge disappointment. There is a lot of sex too if you like that sort of thing. I do.

If one has HBO, its shows run multiple times during the week. Ditto for Showtime. Even AMC runs "Mad Men" a few more times during the week. So this item is kind of silly.

But no one mentions "Masterpiece Theater?" Even vs. monotonal David Duchovny?

Love Vince on Entourage. I'm rooting for the geeks on The Amazing Race.

Duchovny is anything but monotonal in Californication. He's funny as hell.

I disagree, doyouhave.... Yes, Duchovny's funny sometimes (in various stuff), but he absolutely cannot do "things" with his voice. This is the problem with so many younger (and younger...) actors these days, that they have zilch vocal training. And it shows.

cathar, have you seen Californication? Duchovny is different in this that he was on Larry Sanders or David Letterman where he displayed an almost Charles Grodinesque deadpan dryness. And yes, he even does silly voices. I was never impressed with him before but he is extremely good in this show.

Yes, I watched the previous season of "Calif..." A glum sort of show, always made me want to bathe right after watching it because it conveyed a weird sense of masturbatory stickiness.

We clearly disagree here. In my mind, Gillian Anderson was by far the "better half" of the X-Files duo.

I never watched the X-Files. And please, just call me "grey." Seems to be what most have settled on.

Now that "my" Yanks have bit the dust (sigh), I'm checking out tv. I know this is horrible but I actually like "Brothers & Sisters" (love Sally Field!). I do watch "Entourage" (Kevin Dillon and Jeremy Piven are awesome), and "Californication"
on Demand (Comcast) during the week. Still, I miss "The Wire" a lot (such a great show). I know -- how can I say I like "The Wire" and "Brothers & Sisters" (one is exceptional and one is schmaltzy)? But, I do like them both (escapism -- B&S -- perhaps?). Like others on this thread, I'm a big reader (I work in publishing) too. It's easy to read and watch B&S at the same time (haha!). I caught a few episodes of "Flight of the Conchords" (sp?) and enjoyed that -- it's wacky and fun. I hope that show comes back.
