There's plenty happening around Baristaville this weekend. Among the offerings on our calendar:
Tonight, have a few laughs (and maybe a few beers) for a good cause at Tierney’s: Café Theater is staging a series of short comedies, offering Monty Python-style hilarity. This show is the second of three cancer-awareness fundraising events happening around town (the third happens tomorrow at the Unitarian church) in honor of healer and yoga master Jyoti Chrystal.
Tomorrow, stop by the Crane Park Festival for tons of kids' activities, amazing food, special musical guest Jefferson Newman, Capoiera and TaeKwon-Do demonstrations. Or cruise by the Makeready Press gallery to check out a striking new work called "Obama Making Waves."
It’s a great weekend for theater-goers: Dessa Rose opens at Westminster Arts Center at Bloomfield College. It’s the NJ premiere of this powerful musical by the composer of “Ragtime,” produced by 4th Wall Theatre.
And on Sunday, you'll find the Indie Music Circus at Luna Stage.

Takin' a ride down the coast with wifey starting at the lighthouse in Sandy Hook down to wherever the ocean breeze takes us. Something about the shore in early autumn...
You can stop by Mt. Hebron Middle School on Bellevue Ave. (enter on the Lorraine Ave. side, around the back) for a carwash and bake sale to benefit the PTA--proceeds go to help with such good things as reading-trip scholarships and classroom teacher grants. Coffee courtesy of Starbucks!
You can also stop by the Homeless Animal Adoption League (HAAL), 56 Dodd Street, Bloomfield, for a Yard Sale. HAAL always has great merchandise at the sale.
thanks for that tip, nellie. i've never gone and having 3 cats from PAWS, it'd be nice to contribute and maybe snag something cool, too. I'll hope to be one of the earlier birds.
HAAL does great work and deserves to be supported. The sale is from 9:30-3:30.
My weekend plan is to not take the bus home. Sounds like a horror show on the outward bound Lincoln. A complete nightmare. Thanks as always to conductor Josh for all the good work he does. Lots of alerts coming in. Will gladly be enjoying a beer on the train instead.
I'm gonna hit the lighthouse in Sandy Hook and go wherever the ocean breeze takes me.
Wait.
No.
HAAL's website is linked through petfinder at http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/NJ25.html
Stop in and meet the wonderful cats tomorrow!
Have to work tomorrow. Sunday, a movie and friends.
Update on that crazy commute home last night. Buses were held in the port authority for three hours, 495 was closed in both directions from 4 pm to 7 pm last night because police found a "suspicious" jar of liquid, which turned out to be a snapple bottle filled with pee. I wish I was making this up.
Complainerpuss, I left my office at 5:10 and didn't get home till 8:10... and it would've been even later had I not jumped ship and gone down to Penn Station. Nothing was wrong with the trains, thank goodness. Still had to get to Willowbrook to collect my car, but someone was nice enough to give me a ride. I just feel sorry for one of the other bus people who was with us--she'd also been caught up in the mess on Wednesday. What was that one? Someone's beer can tossed on 495, or something? And now this one, with a "trucker bomb" being left on the road? Next time someone tosses out a lit cigarette, are they gonna go into lockdown? ::growl::
