Live From Fitzgerald’s, It’s Election Night

7:43 pm. (DG): Mob scene at Fitzgerald’s restaurant. Dribs and dribs of election news coming in on TV. So far, Obama has Vermont, McCain has Kentucky. You can see that we’ve installed an electoral count widget in the top-right corner of our page. At 8, polls close locally and Fitzgerald’s brings out the free pizza.
7:58: (LG): McCain adds South Carolina, West Virginia and Oklahoma. Obama takes unreal America — Massachusetts, Delaware, New Jersey, Maryland, Maine and New Hampshire. Obama, 81; McCain, 39.
8:17 (LG) Lautenberg projected winner.
8:35: 102, Obama; 54, McCain. McCain adds Alabama, Arkansas and Tennessee; Obama adds Illinois.
8:42: (LG) Crowd roars as Pennsylvania gets called for Obama. Not everyone agrees.
9:02: (LG) McCain takes North Dakota; Obama takes Minnesta, Michigan and Wisconsin. Arizona too close to call.
9:15 (LG): North Carolina goes to Obama. Obama, 174; McCain, 100.
9:20: Georgia goes to McCain.
9:23: (LG) And the crowd goes WILD: Ohio is in the house for Obama!!!!!!!!!!
9:26: (LG) McCain takes Louisiana. Obama, 195; McCain, 85.
9:30: Bob Russo calls in from Democratic headquarters in Bloomfield. All Democrats in Bloomfield win for council.
9:53: (LG) Obama, 199; McCain, 124. In Glen RIdge, Yvonne Provost is leading the GR council race as a write-in; second is incumbent Art Dawson. Glen Ridge town manager Michael Rohal says numbers are not official because absentees, provisionals and emergency ballots have not been counted, which could put victory in reach of Kelly Conklin.
10:00 (LG) Iowa for Obama; Utah for McCain.
10:48 (LG): Bloomfield council — clean sweep for Democrats. Winners are Janice Maly, Nick Joanou and Robert Ruane. In Bloomfield, Barack Obama got 11,841 votes; John McCain had 6,783 votes.

Looks like Florida is gone too.
    - one of the worst things about this? Hollywood celebrities get an unneeded ego boost for thinking they shaped this election in Obama’s favor. Well perhaps they did, but do they need any more pats on the back considering the amount of award shows?

I had major problems with both candidates, but to see America elect an African American president is still awesome and something I never thought I would witness in my lifetime. This is truly an historic, amazing night in our history.

Just stopped by GR Borough Hall -
GR Council race is too close to call because it does not include Absentee Votes and Provisional Ballots, and because the vote totals must be certified (especially important with write-ins).
Current unofficial GR Council tally – All districts reporting (2 seats):
    Provost – 907
    (i)Dawson – 865
    Conklin – 819
Considering that the County is swamped with Absentee Votes and Provisional Ballots, we might have to wait a while for final results, although they might do us earlier than others because most of the others won’t affect outcomes.

Should have been Hillary! However, this is historic and exciting. What will happen next? Who will his cablinet be?
Mc Cain is giving a decent conciliatory speech.

Good to meet some of you people at Fitzgerald’s 1928 tonight. It’s nice to put a face to some of the names on here. And, it was fun to watch Paul whirl around taking care of business.
As I predicted, Obama won. Now, the GOP has four years to produce another stinker and eight years to get Jeb Bush ready.

    @Liz-
I DID want to meet some Baristanet people, although I didnt want to walk around the pub asking people if they blog on barista! Also, my girlfriend is a McCain supporter and as soon as we got the Fitzgeralds, she was on edge watching the map turn blue.
Now that Obama is president, there will be plenty of occasions to celebrate at Fitz!
