This happened "in" Bloomfield, but does anyone know if the injured are "from" Bloomfield?
Not sure if it matters. A shot teen is a shot teen.
Lucky no one was killed.
The paucity of details on this one even on the original NJ.com item suggests an extreme rush to judgment by the Baristas as to running it. Perhaps this was necessitated by the grim prospect of an otherwise VERY slow news day?
In any case, what really constitutes a "pistol whipping?" It's a cliche reporters still trot out with dogged regularity, but ever since the death of Mickey Spillane the term has ceased to have any real meaning. Certainly, "pistol whipping" per se is not an indictable offense.
"Certainly, "pistol whipping" per se is not an indictable offense."
If someone beats a person with a pistol, that is assault. Sheesh, cathy.
If someone is shot in my neighborhood, I want to hear about it. I'm sure there will be more detail to follow as no one has been formally charged.
Spots, do you know the meaning of "per se?" Can you read with a fair degree of comprehension?
Well, no, you obviously can't. Sheesh, Spottie!
Not only are the facts sparse, they're seemingly wrong -- am I the only one who recognizes that Salter Place is no where near Belleville Ave?
And banana split, what did you learn from this item? I mean, really? Anything at all that reflects upon your neighborhood or its denizens? No, you did not, but if this is your standard for useful journalism, then I can only wish you well with its clear commitment to blankness.
Others, however, might have at least semi-plausibly suggested that it would have behooved the Baristas to wait on the posting until a few details were actually available. If only to nail down if your neighborhood was truly "involved" in some way.
Per se is one of the best restaurants I've ever had the pleasure of visiting.
"Spots, do you know the meaning of "per se?" Can you read with a fair degree of comprehension?
Well, no, you obviously can't. Sheesh, Spottie!"
Umm, "per se" means "in itself," so your argument is that beating someone with a pistol without further action (like a good kick in the nuts or stealing someone's wallet) is perfectly acceptable and cannot bring an assault charge? Sheesh Cathy... make my name sound cute, I dare you!
I've heard gunfire from my bedroom window a few times. There is a percussive aspect to a discharging firearm that is impossible to confuse with firecrackers.
Guns go 'pow' and firecrackers go 'bang'.
I wondered at those times, was it just some cowboy trying out their new 'piece' or was it someone actually shooting at someone else.
No, guns go "pop" and firecrackers go "pip".
Well, well, well. If it isn't gonzo blogger Hunter S. Cathar out for his morning hallucination. Watch out buddy, this is bat country,
The original NJ.com item did not refer to the likelihood of an assault charge, mta (upon which poor Charlie still rides to the best of my knowledge). It specifically used the term "pistol whipping." Which is a reliably hoary cliche, probably beloved by the hacks left at the Star-Ledger who didn't get those buy-outs, but otherwise just doesn't mean much of anything. Nowhere, however, did I disparage the idea that assault is an indictable offense. Would you really like to be classed as someone with reading comp skills congruent with those of Spots?
In the dialogue balloons of comic books with which I grew up MellonBrush, guns generally went "ka-pow" and "ping and "kee-rack." And when pistol-whipped, guys invariably went "oof" and "unnnhhhhh..."
as they fell face down in alleys.
"Bats" as in those which inhabit your, uh, guano-filled personal "belfry," laserfool?
As Irvine Welsh would likely say -- ya should all shut yir festerin' gobs.
But he would be especially hard on a fookin' poseur who calls herself "jerseygurl" via a purposely dumbed-down spelling, jersey..uh...gurl.
Sweet Cathar, the jerseygirl was already taken so I used the "u" since it is at least phonetically correct. Feckin' idjit.
Salter Place does not intersect with Belleville Ave.
Salter Place is mostly in Belleville, and is only one block long.
It falls between Franklin Street (just across from the Stop & Shop), and leads into Newark Ave.
Only about a third of the houses are in Bloomfield.
I wonder where this actually occurred, especially if the vehicle was found in Belleville Park.
Mulishly stupid and smug jerseygurl, that "jerseygirl" was already taken is no excuse for your bad attempt via your posting name to come off as somehow "accessible" and down-to-earth.
But I also don't believe you.
Cathar, calm down. There is another poster here with an "i". No smugness intended, it's the truth. Since we're posting anonymously on a goofy local blog, I fear you are reading way too much into the name I chose which I did without putting too much thought into the process. I tried "girl" it was taken so I switched to "u" and it worked. If it hadn't worked I would have tried something else. I have friends and relatives who often jokingly 'mock' my home state and give me stickers and T-shirts with Jersey Girl on them, despite my age. If I had any intention of being accessible I would have used my own name.
In any case, your response to my screen name is a bit of an overreaction. Perhaps an anger management class or some yoga would help?
My response to your choice of a posting sobriquet, jg, is necessarily linked to my general contempt for your thoughts. It's as simple as that, and no, yoga would not help there.
Well, I'm honored to be held in contempt by a smug, mulish and cantankerous old fecker such as yourself. The feeling is mutual.
