The Other Winners

Wednesday, November 5, 2008

Oh yeah, there were others on the ballot whose political careers were at stake. Here are some other winners you can talk about: Frank Lautenberg (D) won a record-setting fifth term in the US Senate by a 51% margin over Rick Zimmer (R). Democrat Bill Pascrell beat Roland Straten (R) keeping his seat as Representative of the 8th district.

In Bloomfield, all three Council seats went to the Democrats: Janice Maly (1st ward) defeated Carol Humphreys, Nick Joanow upset Ray Tamborini taking 2nd ward, Robert Ruane defeated Octavio Morales in the 3rd ward.

It looks like Yvonne Provost and Art Dawson won the Glen Ridge Council election, although the borough won't have final numbers until Friday, when all absentee, emergency and provisional ballots will be counted - according to a local official.

Both write-in candidates, fierce opponents of turfing athletic fields, faced incumbent Art Dawson. Write-in Yvonne Provost got the most votes: the unofficial number is 907. Incumbent, Art Dawson, won the second seat, with an estimated 865 votes.

Kelly Conklin, also a write-in, came in 3rd with 816 votes. After learning he came in third, Conklin said "I feel great. I think we demonstrate there's a connection to our platform -- greater accountability, greater accessibility."

Newly elected councilor Provost said "the big word today is transparency."

Lautenberg?.....and McCain was too old?

No; McCain was the wrong man for the job at hand.

I would also add to the list Sarah Palin, who goes home to Alaska with $150,000 in new outfits that cost her nothing.

Annette,

In GR, and pretty much everywhere else, it is
Councilwoman-elect, or, if you prefer, Councilperson-elect.

In NJ, Montclair is the only muni I've found that uses "Councilor".

"I would also add to the list Sarah Palin, who goes home to Alaska with $150,000 in new outfits that cost her nothing."

And absolutely nowhere to wear them.

LOL! You got that right!

I wonder if Al Franken won? So far, its still too close to tell

Do you think she'll need those red Jimmy Choo's in Alaska? I was thinking about calling her.
