You may know this already, but there is an overturned tanker truck on the NJ Turnpike (near Giants Stadium). I can see the huge plumes of smoke from my office in Jersey City. It’s going to be a long commute home for anyone traveling on the Turnpike and Rt.3….may want to give your readers a heads up.
UDPATE: NJT rail is cross-honoring NJT bus passes.
Here's the scene.

Yuck. Thanks for the heads up. I'm riding home with DH tonight so I guess it'll be the Holland.
Don't forget the Belleville Turnpike.
Does anyone know if air traffic is affected? Mrs. Mitty is supposed to be flying home and her airline is telling her of a "ground stop" at EWR.
Walter, Maybe the visibility in the area is affected.
It doesn't look pretty. I hope no one was killed.
I wonder if it'll affect 280 and if I need to take the train instead. Anyone know?
it's a metaphor for our retirement accounts. May God help us all.
Not sure what part you mean Mrs M but 280 might get some alternative volume from the Holland but probably only from the GSP east. Same with Rt 78.
Don't forget to bring sandwiches and cocoa, jerseygurl. It's going to be a loooooong ride home. Not so much a ride as a creep or a crawl. Perhaps you'd like to blog the trip home for us from your blackberry (or in your case more likely an iPhone)?
As for me, I'll be staying in the city for a while, then, when the smoke has cleared, a trip home with the car service perhaps?
Forget metaphors, it's a synonym for my evening commute.
Please no one mention the stock market.
Wally, I'll put my iPhone up against your Blackberry any day. Cocoa and sandwiches - thanks for the idea! I'll whip some up now and DH and the dog and I can have a fun, if slow, trip home!
Yikes! I'm with Nellie--I hope the human damage wasn't too severe.
ROC, leave it to you to find a way to connect this to your moneymoneymoney.
actually Katie, it's now:

Well buses are running, albeit slowly. 280 express will.still do the 280 route but via Grove Street.
bad news for the local environment... if there's any plant or animal life left in that area. very unfortunate, hope no one was hurt.

ROC, I am sitting at my desk laughing out loud...Good one!
Just heard from clevercommute.com that Route 3 west is a breeze. Good to know. As always, clevercommute comes through! Perhaps Obama should consider Josh Crandall for Transportation Secretary?
I just got out of tunnel and it doesn't seem to be worse than usual.
...for the driver, you mean, right?
(your driver)
Maybe it's a good thing that The Giants are going to be in Arizona. . . and I am darned happy that I will get to be there!
You're on a comic roll today ROC. Route 3 is fine.
Same here...got home at the same time I always do.
Well, jerseygurl, you're certainly a good sport. I'm glad it wasn't too bad for you and the DH. I guess I can wait for your wailing and gnashing of teeth.
For some reason that snapshot reminds me of a Turner painting.
OT:
Please God, please don't let our mayor see this.
Two courageous people snuffed out the flames on the driver and one of them, a nurse, took him to Univ Hosp. He was badly burned but is expected to recover.
Good. I have looked and not found any reports of the driver.
