"By the Time I Get to Phoenix," "Wichita Lineman," "Galveston," and "MacArthur Park," are just some of the major hits of singer/songwriter Jimmy Webb (and we can remember all the lyrics to..). Outpost In The Burbs brings Webb to Baristaville for a Dec. 5 concert at a the Unitarian Church, 67 Church Street, Montclair.
Webb fans, listen up: email us now, at tips@baristanet.com with your favorite line from MacArthur Park. The first person to respond wins two free tickets to the show, courtesy of Outpost In The Burbs.
The winner: "Mrs." Martta was the quickest on the keyboard, winning two free tickets to Friday's show. Her favorite line: "...were pressed in love's hot fevered iron, like a striped pair of pants."

I got to see him play a few years ago at the Steinway 150th Anniversary. He wasn't the original show headliner, but when we got to the theater and I saw he'd be playing I was thrilled. One of baristaville's own live on stage. It was a great show!
Congrats MM!
You beat me out. Good show!
My wife and I will probably be going to this show too.
Maybe we'll see you there.
Someone left a cake out in the rain...
:-)
Congrats, MM
Thanks...I am probably one of the few people who loves "MacArthur Park" (although only the Richard Harris version).
MM,
While I prefer the Richard Harris version, I also like Donna's disco remake, but I don't know why she changed it to "Chinese Checkers" - I lived near MacArthur Park for a few years (in between the releases) and I never saw anyone playing any kind of checkers there.
Ruby (DW) hates the Richard Harris version so much that she makes me change the station when it comes on. I don't think she likes the disco version either. As Sly said, different strokes for different folks...
"MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down...
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it,
'Cause it took so long to bake it,
And I'll never have that recipe again, Oh, no!"
Ah, well, the music is nice.
You lived in LA, Carl?
I have lived many, many places Mrs. M, including L.A. I moved there with my family in 1976 (we had some family there already), I went to Cal State L.A. 1979-1983, and I left L.A. shortly after I finished my last final, although I have returned from time to time - I still have family there and lots of friends, so I try to visit regularly.
How 'bout you?
Jersey gal all my life, although I've lived and worked in various upstate NY burgs when I attended college (Syracuse, Cazenovia, Skaneateles). Not very romantic, upstate NY, but you know what? You stayed inside and got your work done because the weather was usually sucky.
Most of my family has left for the Left Coast now, living in the Portland, OR, area and Seattle.
Quite a body of work by Mr. Webb.
But MacArthur Park...er...takes the cake.
My question: What was smoking, drinking, snorting or otherwise ingesting when he wrote that song?
I'm just sayin'.

it was a stream of conciousness type of deal which didn't wind up as ass kicking as 'American Pie' ..
Acid. Owsley, low-test, unleaded, probably. Anything stronger and he would have written "A Day in the Life."
Owsley LSD was pure and unadulterated. Four way 1000 micogram dose in a small white tablet, 'white lightning'. More likely, Mr. Webb availed himself of street blotter, but certainly not Mr. Natural..
Show was awesome. Both my DH & I thoroughly enjoyed it. My only complaint is that he did not do "MacArthur Park!"
