Mega-Bust Of Crystal Meth

Wednesday, December 3, 2008

Holy Ice-Capades! This was the mother-lode of shipments: feds seized $11 million worth of crystal methamphetamine yesterday in West Paterson. Officials say it was the largest seizure of crystal meth in the state's history. From NJ.com:

The 165-pound cache - the largest ever seized in the Northeast - was captured Monday, when members of a DEA task force pulled over a refrigerated tractor trailer heading east on Route 80. The light-blue crystallized substance was packed into Tupperware-like containers, wrapped in black duct tape and tucked between crates of limes, authorities said.

Investigators suspect the shipment came from massive drug labs in Mexico. They declined to say where it was going.

Here's a picture of the perp arrested and charged with possession and intent to distribute. He is a suspected member of a Mexican drug ring.

How could this happen in a tony community like Woodland Park?

If you're going to use drugs, why pick meth?..sheesh. Ruins your looks (google Faces of Meth), makes your teeth fall out, makes you batshit crazy, it's toxic to the environment. Stick with a nice gateway drug like pot.

Build that great wall, high, wide & thick! This guy I would not deport. I'd put him in jail for 50 years, so we would know he is staying out of trouble and on a diet. Poor thing cannot put his arms down by his side.
Diet of lentils in jail, please.

I hope the people of Patterson hold a vote to change their name so as NOT to be associated with the biggest meth bust in state history!!!

Well, I guess I'll be sleeping this week after all.

This stuff is great the first couple of times you do it. We got it in Denver back in the 70's but I quickly found that it's a really nasty substance with no upside and stopped partying with it, pretty much sticking to beer and weed after that.

Obviously, this fat man wasn't using meth.

Obviously this man was eating the crystal meth. The 185lbs seized in NJ was 486lbs when he crossed the border in Texas

...in a related story, officials expect a steep decline in the amount of dancing and unprotected sex in Chelsea this weekend.

Who says NAFTA is a problem ?

Pot is not a gateway drug MM, another myth. Legalize it and free up the legal system to handle the real crimes out there and free up the space to house the real criminals. The only difference with alcohol is the powers that be recognized the futility of banning it and regulated/tax it instead. I?m tired of paying for this crap.

Reaction in NJ: "We dealt a serious blow to the drug cartel. This is a huge win for law enforcement"

Reaction in Mexico: "Tell the mule trucks on Rt 95 in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, DC and Jersey to hide the packages more carefully. Maybe we should hide the next 50 shipments inside of watermelons as a test."

Pokey,

I am with you bro. Life is the real gateway to substance abuse. Everyone handles life in their own way. I would love to be able to legally smoke weed. Most of the paranoia around pot is probably due to the underlying fear of getting busted and thrown into a cage. If pot were legal we could save billions in futile enforcement efforts, free prison space for genuinely dangerous people and tax it to generate revenue for scientific research into it's remarkable medicinal properties.

So sad. That area around West Paterson used to be so safe. If I lived in Woodland Park I would seriously consider moving a couple of miles west to a much more secluded location. Like, for instance, this particular house where your only worry is that the loaded gun inside your sweatpants doesn't accidentally go off and shoot you in the leg.

Maybe he missed the exit to Newark.

If they were to legalize pot then we could also grow hemp to make paper with and save countless trees evey year.

I will never forget the paper I wrote my senior year of HS in economics class, "The legalization of marijuana for economical purposes." I mapped out a pretty good business plan for the gov't and got an A. I wish I saved a copy of it somewhere!

Sativa and Indica are both miracle plants placed here by a loving God for the benefit of man.

Crap! There goes all the stocking stuffers for my Type A associates. Oh, well, kinda quiet on Wall Street anyway...

The good old days when bike clubs pretty much had the crank business to themselves, given their ability to enforce "market share," seem sooooo over, based on this one.

I'm not sure this represents progress in any way, either.

legalizing pot is like the Big 3 not getting a bailout. The drug war industrial complex would be crippled. Layoffs of cops, judges, prison/personnel, consultants, and OMG, lawyers, prosecutors & defense would lead to a major depression. Since most legislators are lawyers they will never let any job losses occur even if they did somehow legalize it. So there will be no money saved.

And why does crystal meth have to come from Mexico? Because the feds' War on Sniffles makes it too difficult to get ample quantities of pseudoephedrine for local entrepreneurs to participate in the industry.

I think, appletony, that, more accurately, the difficulty of obtaining P2P (phenyl2propanone, I believe) legitimately in this country for anything other than a very few industrial and veterinary uses is why the Mexican cartels have moved in. It is key to the manufacture of meth.

American bike clubs can only steal or skim so much of the stuff. In Mexico, controls on the chemical are far more lax. You'd probably need a year's production of several antihistamines to make even one tenth of what our friend was caught with on Rte. 80.

Has anyone watched "Breaking Bad" on AMC? Its the story of a chemistry teacher (played by Bryan Cranston from "Malcolm in the Middle") that starts cooking meth.
What a good show.
It won two Emmys.

Breaking Bad is fantastic. Did they cancel it?

If it weren't for the Shield, I wouldn't even know what this stuff is. I guess you can make it at home with enough Sudafed. Poor Sudofed, their sales have got to be down. I know I haven't used it since it went behind the counter. Just another victim of the war on drugs.

"Breaking Bad is fantastic. Did they cancel it?"

No, 13 episodes (season 2) to be released in March.
