As If We Needed Any Encouragement To Eat...

Tuesday, December 30, 2008

Montclair's first-ever Restaurant Week, coming in about 5 weeks, celebrates our top chefs and offers gourmands a great incentive to try out new menus and venues - or revisit your favorites - at value prices.

Reserve a table now, Monday, February 2nd through Sunday, February 8th, when many of Montclair’s top restaurants will be offering three-course, prix-fixe dinners at $20 or $30 (beverages, gratuity and tax not included). For more information and a list of participating restaurants, visit their website.

And in another dining event - mid-February - Nutley celebrates their own culinary top toques with a week of special prix-fixe three-course menus. Menu prices are $15.09, $20.09, or $29.09.

Nutley's Restaurant Week will also try to promote healthier eating to help everyone start off the New Year right. Restaurants are asked to provide healthy alternatives to their normal menus without sacrificing the flavor you love. It's our way of adding a little twist to the traditional Restaurant Weeks!

If I'm reading the website right, you can't make reservations for many of the places this early.

That said, I'm saving up for a week of fine dining.

Yes, Nutley does need to promote healthier eating...all those stretchy pants...what a sight!

I would seriously pass on Cianci unless they clean the place up. I was there two weeks ago, and it was filthy. The service was good, but the restaurant was gross with dried food on the walls, plates that were stained, and dirty flatware. The bathroom looked as if it hadn't been cleaned in days (rolls of toilet paper scattered about and no soap in the dispenser). The menus were stored in plastic covers, but the covers were torn and sticky. The food was so-so. It used to be so much better.

I'm sure other places will be better.

I don't need any excuse to eat, but this is a great way to try new places. I suspect the current economic conditions have put a bit of crimp in the restaurant business.
