If you own a Dell computer, you may be eligible to get a cash payout. The computer manufacturer hasn't admitted to any wrongdoing, but shaky financing promotions and customer complaints led to a settlement for customers in New Jersey as well as 34 other states. The decision to pay Dell customers in New Jersey $25,000 couldn't come at a better time - file for your money by April 13.

Wow...I have a Dell but haven't received anything in the mail about this. Of course, mine is about 5 years old so I don't know if I am eligible.
wow a whole 25,000 to be split up between the millions of owners of Dell's in NJ.
So, Roc, you'll be the first in line?
you bet!
Hopefully none of you other suckers will even file and then I'll get it all, right?
That link provided has to be one of the most useless AP stories I've ever read. Luckily, the AP story inculded a link to the NJ Dept of Consumer Affairs, which--surprise--has no mention of the Dell payoff on their website. I checked the official Dell website and it too has no mention of the lawsuit or settlement. Luckily, I was able to do a quick google search on my DELL computer at work and found this helpful article that explains everything. My favorite part of this story is how the lawyer who came up with the bright idea to sue Dell will end up more than half of the 3.5 million dollar settlement, while all the Dell owners will get to split 1.5 million bucks, which if we're lucky, may cover postage.
$25k to go to those who had...
A problem with a Dell financing offer
A problem with a Dell rebate
A problem with Dell financing
A problem with a Dell repair, warranty or servicing
...so not everyone with a Dell can make a claim.
i have a Dell, state. This: "A problem with a Dell repair, warranty or servicing"
covers 100% of Dell owners, trust me.
(Why anyone would own/use anything other than a mac is besides me...)
work. that's it.
I can't say that I've had a lot of problems with my Dell and it's ancient in computer years. So far, I've just had to replace a disc drive and a couple of drivers but that's it.
I like Macs, like them for graphic design and the fact that they are immune to viruses but I just find PCs a little more user-friendly.
No way Mrs. M. You're just used to having to load a huge program into your PC in order to turn it into something resembling a user friendly MAC that needs nothing more than to be turned on in order to have a user friendly interface with scroll down menus. Don't dis my mac.
MM, the like the mac for "graphic design" is so 1995.
Funny. Let any PC user see/use a mac and BAM they want one.
Let any mac user (suffer) use a PC and they feel sorry for you...
I know I do.
windows is as user friendly as mac if you ask me (I use both) until you plug something into a pc and then all hell breaks loose.
No diss, just observation. I learned on a Windows platform so that is what I'm used to.
That's the point ROC. You need the windows program to turn your PC into something like a MAC. The MAC OS doesn't need one.
huh?
Your mac operating system is a program which sits atop unix just like windows on DOS.
Don't know much about computers, do you?
"i have a Dell, state. This: "A problem with a Dell repair, warranty or servicing"

you're funny roc.
but I've had two dells for home use since 1998 and I've had no reason to contact dell for anything. which is quite remarkable now that I think about it.
I do have an issue with McAfee though. we didn't renew our preloaded virus protection sometime long ago, like a year ago, and they just sent us an automatic renewal notice and charged our card $70. they claim they are protecting us. nice work if you can get it.
complainerpuss is 100% on the money.
The only people who benefit from class action lawsuits are the attorneys. If we are smart and stop the nonsense, that can be curtailed.
Do you really need the $5. to make a major company lose millions.
I smell a bailout!
I'm with you SSP.
I've owned more than a few Dells going back to a p1 desktop and a p2 notebook.
Only 2 problems, a bad modem a month before warranty ran out and a bad screen on a lap top. Both were covered and fixed at no personal expense and in home service, they also negotiated the price even after sale incentives when first bought.
No complaints.
I would add though, I'm not sure the next one will be a Dell, things have changed lately.
what is NJ Dept of Consumer Affairs? Never heard of them. Is Complainerpuss a fraud?
Macs are counter intuitive for anyone who spends the majority of their time using word processing, numerical, financial or statistical manipulation or productivity tools. always were and still are. Macs however, still are great for graphic design and are more immune to viruses than PCs. anyone who says different is so 2000.
Prof,
I should add that I like how the Mac interface looks...just not how it works. Maybe I drank too much PC juice?
New Jersey DIVISION of Consumer Affairs. And yes, Bajayankee, I am a fraud.
Rumor has it that Bernie Madoff (what a great name for a goniff) made all his trades on a Dell computer, which is why no one in any investigation can find evidence of a single trade since 1960. He had a brokerage business that by law is audited every two years and never -- since the 1960's -- did his brokerage company ever report making a trade. While I sympathize with the folks who lost their substantial fortunes (or do I?), didn't anyone smell a rat (or listen to the people who did smell this rat)? Or were they blinded by the returns? (And how was that for a thread hijack?)

This would be me. Again, not dissing Macs, just that PCs fit my needs better.
good comeback CP :)
