It Just Keeps Wintering On

I sure am glad I schlepped out to the Marshalls on Rt. 46 last week to pick up the very last pair of Uggs wannabes. (Thanks for the tip, Annette!) I thought perhaps my symbolic gesture would actually bring on the spring, but it appears I will get a chance to stomp around in my new Borns after all.
Yes another wintry mix is on the way. From the National Weather Service:

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO
MIDNIGHT EST WED NIGHT.
THE NATL WEATHER SVC IN UPTON HAS ISSUED A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW.SLEET & FREEZING RAIN.WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO MIDNIGHT EST WED NIGHT.
SNOW WILL OVERSPREAD THE AREA AFTER MIDNIGHT TONIGHT & COULD BECOME HEAVY AT TIMES DURING THE WED MORNING COMMUTE. SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF 3 TO 5 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE DURING THIS TIME WITH 2 TO 4 INCHES POSSIBLE ALONG THE COAST. WARMER AIR ALOFT WILL MOVE INTO THE AREA BEGINNING LATE WEDNESDAY MORNING.BUT TEMPS WILL REMAIN BELOW FREEZING LATE WEDNESDAY MORNING THROUGH EARLY WED AFTERNOON. THIS WILL ALLOW FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF SLEET & FREEZING RAIN WITH UP TO ONE TENTH OF AN INCH OF ICE POSSIBLE DURING THIS TIME.
TEMPS WILL WARM ABOVE FREEZING DURING THE AFTERNOON. ALLOWING PRECIPITATION TO CHANGE OVER TO PLAIN RAIN BEFORE TAPERING OFF BY MIDNIGHT WED NIGHT.
A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY MEANS THAT PERIODS OF SNOW SLEET OR
FREEZING RAIN WILL CAUSE TRAVEL DIFFICULTIES. BE PREPARED FOR SLIPPERY ROADS & LIMITED VISIBILITIES & USE CAUTION WHILE DRIVING.

Tarnation, I’m powerful sick of this weather. I had enough of this growing up on a great lake – isn’t this supposed to be a temperate zone? As of today I’m officially expanding my job search to Australia.

The part of Morris County my office is in is supposed to get 6 – 8″, but my boss is supposed to get 8 – 10″ (with an inch or two of freezing rain to boot!).
Maybe I’ll get lucky and wake up to a nice voice mail saying the office is closed.
(and may I’ll also wing the lottery tonight)

sleepy, I’m with you. The cold is just killing me this year, especially now that my expanded canine brood requires extended daily walks. The cold is actually making me angry now.

Same here. I love walking my doggie but I hate putting on the coat, hat, scarf and gloves just to walk around the block. But you need ‘em!

I’m working from home tomorrow so my commute will be ok.
Our 80 year old kitchen sink is being refinished and I want to be around to get a buzz from the fumes. :) ))))

What’s the allure of Uggs? I can see wearing them in the winter and such as comfort should always trump style and they sure do look warm, but I’ve seen countless women and young girls wear them in the summer with shorts and skirts. I don’t know about the other gents here, but nothing is more alluring and speaks of classiness like a nice set of gams stuffed into fur-lined dead animal skin in seventy degree weather and the inevitable surprise of stinky feet.
Next to the super-sized bugeye sunglasses, it’s one of the worst fashion statements in the past century.
    I just don’t get it.

They do stink. They were originally designed as footwear for surfers to put on when they come out of the water. Sort of Apres Surf boots. Not for all day wear.

Thanks dannyboo. I thought it was just me. That’s a perfect name for them too, as in UGGly.

MM, my dog trainer recently mentioned you can buy single-use hand warmers at CVS… I am looking forward to getting my mitts on those, because even with double gloves my fingers are burning with cold by the end of a long walk!
I’ll let you know how they work out!

Just to clarify Deb, I’m not knocking you for using those boots for utilitarian purposes. I’m just speaking in regards to those who take their fashion cues from Paris Hilton.

My Uggs don’t stink. I couldn’t live without them. The dead minks on my coat match the dead animals on my Uggs. Its a combo.

This weather is clearly a Republican conspiracy to drive people to use more fossil fuels, thus enriching the Bush and Cheney petroleum trusts. And I know that’s true because I read it on the Internet from right here on Duck Key, FL, where it is 77 and partly sunny. “Oh, Belvedere! Please bring me another gin and tonic, thank you!” Time to slip out of these Uggs and into the pool.

My girls refer to wannabe UGGs as FUGGS (fake UGGS)
I laugh because I of course wear Costco FUGGs (34.95), which are almost identical (in appearance and materials) to my daughters authentic UGGS.

I’m with Dan. UGGs are butt ugly, and in the summer?

  19. POSTED BY jerseygurl  |  January 27, 2009 @ 2:48 pm

I tried Uggs on once and they were very comfortable. Really comfortable, ugly ass boots made of dead animals.

I bought a great pair of boots from Cabelas. Supposedly, they keep your feet warm in 20-below temps. Comfortable, practical, not bad-looking. And not made from dead animals.

  22. POSTED BY Generically named Mike  |  January 27, 2009 @ 5:09 pm

I wear insulated Rothco military boots.
With the addition of a pair of wool socks they keep my feet uncomfortably warm and amazingly dry.
Sadly, they are completely devoid of any fashion value.
(Then again, that probably also keeps other people like me from commenting on how the wearer of such boots is going to sack a village and drive their enemies before them.)

Uggs are just winter Birkenstocks. Ugly. Functional. Expensive.

You all are at your PC all day, so it’s winter and there is “weather”! Has anything changed in all of your 40+years on this earth. We have shovels,sno-blowers, SUV’s and supermarkets 5 minutes away—-quit kvetching, geez! It doesn’t keep me from my life, enjoy how clean everything looks with white snow! Please enjoy the quiet peace of it because in 3 months you’ll all be complaining about the landscaping lawn-mowing, leaf-blowing noise. I beg you–if we have 4 inches of snow–light your fireplace, sip a brandy and DIG IT!

I would love to see Santorum get the nod. Maybe then the politically comatose members of society will wake up.
