From Lieutenant James Carlucci, Montclair Police Department:
Due to the economic crisis, we may see an increase in fraudulent emails being sent to unsuspecting victims. These emails appear in various email forms such as; “bank correspondences,” “official correspondences from a government agency,” “citizen in need and lottery.”
These have all been confirmed to be fraudulent schemes along with several others. These frauds mainly originate overseas and can only be carried out with cooperation from the victim. Residents are urged not to enter their account numbers, or passwords in any email and do not electronically wire any funds unless you are clearly confident of the originating source. Please visit www.onguardonline.gov for further information.
Yes, there’s a stupid scam born every day, and I think they’re all sent to my email. Funny, when I occasionally send off a scathing reply, I don’t hear back. Have you received any crazy money requests lately?

“Due to the economic crisis”?
C’mon.
Like blaming Bush, this “greatest economic crisis since the Great Depression” is allowing some folks to cry foul (and create fake “stimulus” bills) all while acting like they’ve got things under control.
Here, the idea that the Police needs to “warn” people about internet fraud is funny.
The “nanny-town”?
When there are economic pressures, people are more likely to make irrational decisions – and be sucked into scams that they wouldn’t otherwise have fallen prey to.
An example of this type of thinking can be seen in lotteries. In times of recession, lottery sales tend to increase materially. People become more desperate and rationalize lottery ticket purchases even though they are, on average, just trowing away their money at a time when they can least afford it.
Please use common sense people.
These scams have been going on for years. If you don’t know it’s a fraud by now, I guess there’s no help for you.
But liv, there is help.
Government will make it all better!!!!
Trust them, they know what’s best for all of us……
How ’bout them $2.99/lb apples at Whole Foods?
Is anyone else concerned with how Nobama is courting the unions?
I’m asking for opinions…have unions (like the teachers and auto workers) outlived their usefullness?
“Have you received any crazy money requests lately?”
Yes, from the U.S. gubmit to bail out gypies, tramps and thieves.
“Have you received any crazy money requests lately?”
Yes, from the U.S. gubmint to bail out gypsies, tramps and thieves.

Iceman:
Your 2nd sentence is rhetorical, right?! Of course they have outlived their usefulness.
The politicians have made enough laws to protect all these people and the liberal lawyers have made a ton of money on them.
Baristanet white collar workers railing about the bad unions….You make me laugh with your 80 hr. weeks and you’re out the door when your Corporations get twitchy.
If you enjoy turning the tables here are some good sites.

Although I generally regard most unions, especially those in the public-sector, as moribund, bloated, feather-bedding obstructions to progress and efficiency, nevertheless I cannot help but wonder sometimes if, as one of those white-collar types working for a twitchy corporation, I would be a lot less twitchy myself were I under the aegis of such a union.
Regardless, I find it somewhat interesting that Iceman raises this point, he having recently revealed to us that he himself is among the ranks of recently unemployed. I know no more about his situation than that, nor his line of work, but also cannot help but wonder whether that would be the case were he a union member.
Also, can we finally cut out the “Nobama” nonsense? It’s really so childish. The man was legitimately elected President of the United States by an overwhelming majority of the voting population. Even those of us bitter over the anointing of George Bush by the US Supreme Court eight years ago only referred to Bush as “Shrub” or “The Commander in Thief” a few times to assuage our outrage before we moved on with our lives.
Obama won; he’s the President. In the infamous words of Associate US Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, “Get over it!”.
Oh please. GWB got bashed from the left for 8 years. Relentlessly. Why can’t the right do the same thing to zero? Is he above it all? Zero doesn’t know a door from a window or his ass from his elbow and we have to give him a break? Ha!!
It’s kind of silly to offer up that unions have “outlived their usefulness.” And does anyone really think he or she would have healthcare, or even personal days, were it not for unions? Ice, I expected better from you on this one.
And I’m not terribly touched by the “concerns” of local police departments about those e-mail scams (most of which, according to the WSJ, originate from computer banks in Nigeria, though that observation will probably engage both laserrumplestiltskin and dannyboor).
Interestingly, I’m lately getting offers to share the wealth from “American soldiers” stationed in either Iraq or Afghanistan. Those cagety Nigerians have obviously been watching the George Clooney movie “Three Kings.” The days of phoney lottery winnings are long gone, and even those grieving widows of oil national oil company execs and cabinet members are no longer regularly heard from.
You go (montclair)girl!!
I’m with you there. Liberals can dish it out but can’t take it.
Nobama, Nobama, Nobama!
There!
OMG! Take the doughnut out of my mouth! The MPD just woke up after years in a coma!
I’d be hard pressed to come up with even one “concession” that employers would have offered workers had they not had to during the heyday of unions. And those who think those days are over need only look at many business practices today to see how many employers would act towards workers if they could get away with it.
Sure, there are unreasonable demands at times. And many unions are rife with corruption no doubt. But overall unions have been a good thing for American workers and a good thing for American productivity.
Of course it doesn’t affect me personally since I received nearly 6 million dollars from the widow of Dr. Mgumbe Ngoyagi, former Finance Minister of Nigeria.
But others need to protection.
I’ve always found it puzzling that the anger many hold for unions is directed at the workers and the unions themselves rather than at their own employers who do not provide comparable benefits. Rather than pushing their employers to do better by them, they spend time encouraging a diminuation of others’ benefits.
and of course it is still refreshing to see the high level of political sophistication evident in montclairgirl and liv’s posts.
montclairgirl, you’re killing me.
