Montclair Councilor Baskerville must really know how to work a crowd…Baskerville’s open invitation to a community meeting, “Moving Montclair Forward,” scheduled for Tuesday, has received such an “overwhelming response” that the event has been moved to a larger venue – Glenfield School Auditorium, 25 Maple Ave., Montclair. The township-wide meeting will run from 7-9 p.m.
The first of a series of “Moving Montclair Forward” meetings features Montclair’s own Dr. DeForest Blake Soaries, Jr., – Senior Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens in Somerset, New Jersey, and a leading expert on Economic Stimulation and Community Revitalization.
The event is co-sponsored by the United Way of North Essex Financial Stability Partnership. For more information, please contact Councilor Baskerville at 973-509-4929.

Billions of federal dollars are being pumped into “Community Revitalization” in the, uh, “stimulus” package.
These meetings will be VERY popular.

What makes Soaries a genuine expert on “Economic Stimulation and Community Revitalization?” Other, say, than a career-long willingness to water happily at the Federal trough?
Whatever the “North Essex Financial Stability Partnership” actually is, too, its name conveys nothing but ominous portents to those of a fiscally conservative bent.

Perhaps you can get a job at the “one-stop-shop” for bus and train tickets and the new Community Center, walleroo.

let me know when there are community meetings which involve pitchforks and/or the dumping of tea (or would it be bike racks?) into edgemont pond.

Perfect timing. The Mayor is on his way back from DC today (biking no doubt) with a pocket full of goodies. Seems like the other mayors (and Governors too) had a nice time this weekend hats in hand . Any day we will begin to see his new spending plan AKA budget. Corzine has also said he will wait to see what he gets from “The One” before he puts pen to paper.
In the meantime, all the little piggies line up at the trough, despite the “Chattering”

    What suckers we are:
“WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The leader of the U.S. House of Representatives said on Monday lawmakers expect to begin debating legislation this week that would let judges erase some mortgage debt for borrowers who file for bankruptcy.
U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Democratic leaders hope to bring mortgage bankruptcy legislation known as the “cramdown” bill to the House floor on Thursday.
“Hopefully Thursday,” the speaker said to a reporter who asked when the bill would come to the floor, adding that the legislation should be introduced later on Monday.
The legislation would permit bankruptcy judges to erase some principal from troubled home loans just as they are able to adjust other consumer debt.”

This will mean higher interest rates for the suckers who actually pay their mortgages.
p.s. we can’t do italics or blockquotes anymore on baristanet? Sorry to “continually hack at the ties that bind” but this is an improvement?

Councilwoman Baskerville’s 300 word “To Do List” posted a few days ago in this space did not include one mention of TAXES. Not one! In my opinion this disqualifies her from being taken seriously.
Could she possibly be any more detached from what Montclair residents are up against?

I would love to see Santorum get the nod. Maybe then the politically comatose members of society will wake up.
