Do you live in Montclair and have a drawer full of well-worn takeout menus? Is your favorite pizzeria/Chinese/sushi joint on speed dial? Do delivery boys look more familiar to you than some family members? Reality TV is looking for you. Al Roker Entertainment/The Food Network casting producer Alena Jemas writes...
We are currently looking for a dynamic young family in the Montclair, NJ area who eat lots of take out. It's for a new show in which a seasoned chef will go head-to-head against a take-out joint to see who can make the family's favorite take-out meal cheaper, faster and better. It's the quintessential Home Cooking vs. Take Out challenge.
The family will be the ultimate judge in a blind taste test.
Interested eaters can call Alena at (646) 723-9838 or email her at
alena@alroker.com. Tell us in comments where you order takeout from most and what's your family's favorite takeout meal.

eew. and have Al Roker rooting through your menu drawer?
No thanks.
and admit to the watching nation (lol) you can't even put together a meal?
Not further mentions the premise of the show is a straw man.

The reason families take-out a lot has nothing to do with flavor, cheaper, faster, better, it's all about energy and time.
So unless Al's going to provide a "Seasoned Chef" as a permanent member of your house staff, people are still going to eat a lot of take-out because they are tired when they both get home from work.
Sorry, Liz, I don't think we qualify as young and dynamic. Please let me know when Al is looking for a family that's old and lazy.
No Recession Recipes here...
Why is it limited to ONLY Montclair?
Sandy,
It says Montclair, NJ area.
That includes all of Baristaville.
My old favorite chinese place sent me a mothers day card once, so I guess this show is aimed for people like me. However I agree with ROC, unless the chef stays, take out on the way home will win.
Will the chef have to drive the food around until it's only lukewarm, and then serve it in a styrofoam container?
Otherwise it's not a fair blind taste test.
Because, Sandy, Montclair has the youngest and most dynamic people in all of northern New Jersey.
I'm sure that will be part of the "tastes better" forgone conclusion.
But if you really wanted a fair comparison, the family would have to shop for the ingredients, and do the cooking and cleanup themselves. Then when dinner is done at 9:45pm ask them which they'd rather do on a daily basis.
Frankly, if you want to eat a home cooked meal everyday, and God knows I agree it would be wonderful, we need an economy which makes it possible to raise a family on one income. Which for most is simply not possible.
So hopefully Al will spare us more of the same old wealthy-media-personality-telling-us-how-to-live-more-simply genre.
Eating alot of take out is just not healthy.
They are being ageist. Why not an older couple? I take out!
Or why not a single person? Single people probably eat the most takeout.
Duh, " dynamic young family" is tv-speak for not wrinkled and not fat.
Just use that family from Super Nanny. When she was "drugging" I'm sure she ate lots of take out. Years later and I'm still laughing at that one.
