Many of you who’ve been watching carefully already know. Baristanet now has a new page, [Barista Kids](http://www.baristakids.com), dedicated to Baristaville breeders and their offspring. Barista Kids is a partnership between us and Kristen Kemp, founder of MontclairKids, which debuted last summer. Kristen, and her co-editor Georgette Gilmore, have already been providing local parents with [weekly listings](http://www.baristakids.com/blog/this-weeks-highlights-march-4—10/), [practical advice](http://www.baristakids.com/blog/time-to-register-for-kindergarten-in-montclair/) and kid-related news, like this interview with [Dan Zanes](http://www.baristakids.com/blog/post/). They’re also covering controversies, like the question of [whether parents should solicit work using PTA lists](http://www.baristakids.com/blog/would-you-do-it-copy-the-school-email-list-to-promote-business/) and sticky [etiquette questions from the playground](http://www.baristakids.com/blog/spring-in-february-mommy-drama-at-verona-park/).

The difference is: They’re now doing it in partnership with us, and for all the neighborhoods we affectionately call Baristaville.
So please go over to [Barista Kids](http://www.baristakids.com) and check it out. Vote in the Barista Kids poll about whether [Barbie, who turns 50 today, is a pernicious influence](http://www.baristakids.com/blog/barbie-turns-50-do-you-love-her-or-hate-her/). And welcome [Kristen](http://www.baristakids.com/about.php), with daughters Annabelle (left) and Estelle (right), as the newest Barista. (Photo by Dian Lofton)

    Certainly a welcome addition!!!!
    But will this continue with:
    Baristatweens
    Baristateens
    Baristatwentysomethings
    BaristaSeniors
I see a future with a Baristanet for every generations– kinda like the Gap with Old Navy, Baby Gap, Gap, Banana Republic and Piperlime.

Mrs. M, why don’t we launch it?

Okay, so is our son eligible? Lets see, he’s age 25 a C.P.A. & now in NYU Law School ? I have no pics of him in diapers, so you may not be interested!

    MM,
That’s a really cool idea. BaristPets would be a great focal point for all pet related stuff and a good place for petsitters, vets, pet stores, etc to advertise.
Everybody is crazy over their pets and would flock to this site.
I used to go on the NJ.com pet forum and it got lots of action.
    Meow!

    I’m game, JG.
Sandy, puleeze…this is a family web site! LOL!

I wonder what the Baristas will say? No politics. Just pets. I would LOVE it! You’re the writer, I’m the producer. It’s a no brainer.

    Kewl…yes, no DemoCATS or PuPUPlicans!

  10. POSTED BY Mrs. Martta  |  March 09, 2009 @ 4:56 pm

RePUPlicans, sorry…still getting used to this damn movable type!

I consulted with my cats. They think a BaristaPets site would be PURRfect.

I spoke to Kelly. She thinks it would be a project worth emBARKing on.

Just hope getting the site started isn’t too “Ruff”

Ah, the excessive blog promotion makes perfect sense now. Well played, Ms. Kemp.
Serious question: are kids really getting their hair dyed that young now? I ask because my daughter is 8 months old, and I want to know how much longer I have until I start getting hit up for earrings and iPods. I was hoping to make it at least until Kindergarten, but now I’m not so sure.

LiFer — At the end of kindergarten, (last June) my daughter asked for the ear piercing. Not just her — she wanted me to do it (at 41, I never had). She got what she wanted, but we’re holding off on the iPod craziness — at least for a little while.

  17. POSTED BY Pokey  |  March 09, 2009 @ 5:55 pm

Sorry MM & JG, but a pet site will probably be just as snarky, its cats and dogs after all.
Someone will throw in a bird or a hamster, the snakes will come, then mice and gerbils. Not sure if fish are pets or art, but they won’t be a help, then Mathilda will want you to let them all run free and cathar will call lasermoledodiddly something…somethings don’t change.

  18. POSTED BY Sandy  |  March 09, 2009 @ 6:02 pm

Guess I’m outta this one too, with a turtle !
No, he does not bark nor meow, sorry

  19. POSTED BY cathar  |  March 09, 2009 @ 6:33 pm

Laserlonelyboy would never be on a Baristapets site, Pokey, save as someone else’s “pet.” He is socially zeroed out. And if he did turn out to, by some rare chance, have a pet fruit bat or a stingray in his basement, my 10 cats on sheer principle would not share the site with him.

I put the social is socialism. :)

  21. POSTED BY Generically named Mike  |  March 09, 2009 @ 7:39 pm

    LiFer,
I think it all depends on the parents. My niece had her ears pierced long before her first birthday and someone gave us a mirror with tiny speakers and an iPod port for my son’s crib.
We’ll probably hang the mirror near the crib for the visual stimulation, but I think the iPod will wait until he’s at least old enough to ask for it himself. :-P

i have 3 cats but can’t imagine that Baristapets would start out so exclusive as to not include any and every and all pets. Turtles, rodentia, ant farms and even a ladybug lost in your carpet included. Personally, I think the internet’s up to its nursing bra with mommy blogs. How many articles on projectile vomiting can anyone handle, really?

LiFer, just hold out against the tattoos.

  24. POSTED BY complainerpuss  |  March 09, 2009 @ 10:34 pm

    Lasermike,
You put the social in socialism? Okay, I guess. Just please warn us if you ever consider taking the cialis in socialism.

May we also assume, laserpurportedpartyanimal, that the “nit” in nitwit also comes from your head?

  26. POSTED BY MellonBrush  |  March 10, 2009 @ 9:15 am

I once knew a guy who had snakes, lizards and a tarantula as pets.
He lived in an apartment in Belleville. One of his snakes got loose for a couple of months and a neighbor found it under her bed. She screamed, ran and got him and he retrieved his wayward reptile. It was about twice the size that it was went it escaped and didn’t like to be handled afterwards – it had gotten wild, living in the apartment, feasting on bugs and rodents.

Mathilda can even bring her lice pets.

  28. POSTED BY Nick Charles  |  March 10, 2009 @ 10:18 am

This is great news. Can we relegate all Parents Who Rock items to this site so I don’t ever have to look at them?

  29. POSTED BY Nellie  |  March 10, 2009 @ 10:32 am

Does Mathilda need to get them lice-nsed?

LiFer, I’m with you. Hopefully that pink hair color is a temporary rinse that’s not a caustic permanent dye.

One hardly needed to have been “watching carefully” to notice the screaming banner ad or the new link on the header, but be that as it may…
    Dear Debbie,
Remember when I complained about yet another simpering, pointless post by Ms. Kemp, and you scolded me, claiming it was a “funny” respite to a horrible news day? Yeah, apology accepted.
