A tipster sends in a reminder…

The Montclair Civil Rights Commission will hold a public forum (3/25) tonight in the Council Chambers at 205 Claremont Ave. The topic will is ” Change in Montclair–Where We’ve Been; Where We’re Going.” Discussion will focus on the history, current state, and future plans for public education, residential real estate issues, and township employment practices in Montclair, with a panel including the Mayor, Superintendent of Schools and Chief of Police, along with several residents with varying perspectives on the history of our town. Questions will be taken from the audience. This event is intended to continue the series begun last year.

We’re going to be paying another increase in real estate taxes again, thanks to the BOE. At this rate we can cut just about every other service and the average bill will be about $25k a year in a few years. Since I don’t have kids, where I’ll be going is to another town within 2 years if they can’t figure it out.

JG: But if that town doesn’t have a Civil RIghts Commission, and doesn’t collect ridiculous taxes to fund a Civil Rights Commission, you will be living in a town with fewer Civil RIghts. You don’t want that do you? If you stay in Montclair, in exchange for paying the highest real estate taxes on the planet, you’ll enjoy unique Civil Rights unavailable to people living in other towns without a Civil Rights Commission, and the high taxes that help fund it.
For example, Montclair taxpayers enjoy unique Civil Rights like….
    Give me a minute.
    It’s still early, and I haven’t had my coffee…..
I’m sure some will come to me….
All I can think of is that time the Montclair cops confiscated a pair of handcuffs from a family whose kid had found them in his parents’ bedside drawer and got himself locked into them. But that’s probably not a good example.
Maybe someone else can help me out here and tell us about what Montclair-unique Civil Rights our Montclair taxpayer-funded Civil Rights Commission protects.

    It’s payoff money Walter.
By having a Civil Rights Commission, the suggestion that Montclair has exorbitant property taxes to keep out the more “less to do” people (code speak for minorities), can be dismissed as heresy.

I suggest we just become Democratic elected officials like Treasury Secretary Tim Geither, House Ways and Means Chairman Charles Rangel, Rep. Elliot Engle, Rep. Pete Stark, former Senator Tom Daschle, not move and just not pay taxes.

I would love to see Santorum get the nod. Maybe then the politically comatose members of society will wake up.
