We have reason to believe our own Mrs. Martta will be a participant and if so, we hope she will report back to us later. More about the race in the jump…

This annual 5K and 20K run will tip off at 9:30 am. Cash awards will be given out for the top three male and female 20K overall finishers, as well as the top three USA Track Federation for New Jersey -certified male and female finishers, and the top three Masters USATF-New Jersey male and female finishers. First place-winners will receive $800, Second place gets $500, while third-place earns $300.
The race is the first of the nation’s distance running season, and is considered a warm-up for events like the Boston Marathon and other major marathons. It will be held rain or shine.
Registration closes at 9 am on race day, Sunday, March 29. Runners muster for the race by 9 am at Rutgers University Gymnasium (Golden Dome), located at 42 Warren Street, Newark, New Jersey.

Good luck from all of us here on Baristanet!

Hmm. I go to Rutgers-Newark, and I was planning on stopping by campus later today… and now I’m guessing the roads will be blocked. Fun.
    Thanks for the heads-up, BaristaNet!

Yes, I survived the Newark Distance Classic 20K (12.4 miles)!
We weren’t sure we were going to make it down there with the weather report predicting T-storms and all. But we got lucky. It was overcast and misty, around 50 degrees, but no real downpour, ideal running weather.
Every year I forget how tough this course actually is (I’ve been doing it since 2004). Lots of hills and grades, through the streets of Newark and Branch Brook Park, but a nice downhill at the end.
It wasn’t my best time nor my worst (1:58) but I broke 2 hours so I was happy. My husband got 1st in his age with a 1:45!
    Next weekend: Cherry Blossom 10K!

(Glad to see you “let” your husband get a better time, you know how some guys are when their ladies do better than them….;)

    Thanks, Nellie, Prof.
I was happy with my tine but I know I can (and have done) better. Theis winter really messed up my training with all the bad weather, ice, etc. We really caught a break on Sunday, weather-wise.

I would love to see Santorum get the nod. Maybe then the politically comatose members of society will wake up.
