Montclair PD’s Lt. James Carlucci reports yet another incident of Montclair teens robbed in broad daylight. This past Saturday, around 5:40 pm, a group of five eighth-graders was skateboarding on Trinity Place in the rear parking lot of the Siena building when they were were approached by two slightly older teens.
One of the older teens approached a skateboarder saying “I know your brother” and asked for $1. The eighth-grader drew a bunch of bills out of his pocket, $52 in total, which was quickly snatched out of his hands. The skateboarders followed the two older teens at a distance, but lost track of them. A call to 911 brought police to South Park Street. The boys told police they did not know the robber, but could positively ID him. Detectives say there is a security camera in the parking lot where the incident took place.

In 1977, Hall was charged with burglary and sentenced to 40 years in state prison, says Lt. James Carlucci. In 1985, he broke out of jail, and authorities have been looking for him ever since.

Baristaville To Become Poetry-ville?

Tuesday, Mar 24, 2009 11:55am  |  COMMENTS (23)

You may have to dodge poets for a weekend – or rent out a room – if Montclair is chosen as the location of the Dodge Foundation’s 2010 poetry festival. Town manager Joe Hartnett, who is lobbying heavily for Montclair to host the event, says it would be a cultural and economic boon to our community, while strengthening our tax base. That’s an understatement, considering the festival draws upwards of 20,000 poetry-lovers over four days, arriving by the busload.
Earlier this month, members of the Dodge Foundation toured Montclair with a local entourage that showed off the town’s literary and entertainment dowry, in hopes of wooing the the organizers of the massive poetry fest.

ACLU Backs Newspaper, Sues Student Government Association At Montclair State

Tuesday, Mar 24, 2009 8:51am  |  COMMENTS (31)

The ACLU announced it filed suit on Friday against MSU’s Student Government Association (SGA) on behalf of student newspaper, The Montclarion. This is the second time ACLU has stepped in to help the college newspaper battle the SGA. From NorthJersey.com:

The ACLU-NJ’s lawsuit asserts that the SGA violated the Open Public Meetings Act when it improperly went into closed session on Feb. 4, 2009, and then failed to provide The Montclarion with sufficient information regarding that closed session.
Last year the ACLU-NJ filed suit on behalf of The Montclarion after the SGA froze its funding when the paper investigated another violation of the Open Public Meetings Act by the governing group.

The Montclarion is now financially independent of the SGA and is supported by a student fee.
