Montclair Mayor Jerry Fried is holding a series of meetings with citizens ahead of this Thursday night’s meeting of the Board of School Estimate, where the upcoming school budget will be set. Here’s your chance to voice your opinions on how your tax dollars should be spent — or not. The two remaining meetings are:

  • Tuesday, March 31, 7 p.m.: 4th Ward, Montclair Fire Department Headquarters, 1 Pine Street
  • Wednesday, April 1, 7:30 p.m.: 1st Ward, Bellevue Branch, Montclair Public Library, 185 Bellevue Avenue
  • The Board of Estimate meets Thursday April 2 at 7 pm in the atrium of the George Inness Annex, 141 Park Street, Montclair.

      1. Cut administrative staff.
      2. Freeze wages.
      3. Renegotiate contracts.
      4. Renegotiate the new school construction contract.
      5. Let the little feckers walk to school.

      What an effort in futility. The BOE and BOSE have already made up their minds. They intend to go with what they have and not make the hard decisions. And the taxpayer gets screwed.

      How about the BOE & mayor add the federal money coming directly to Montclair in the school budget. This is for K-12 IDEA and Title I – almost $2 million additional dollars not mentioned in the school budget as income. Do that and there will be no tax increase for our schools. Everyone is pretty quiet about this even though Pascresll announced it and it is on the US Dept. of Education website – the share for all towns in NJ and other states. Go figure!
