Predator Alert: More Incidents Reported

Thursday, April 2, 2009

We told you about creeps preying on kids here; now there's more stranger danger to report. Police in Maywood are working with Montclair police after similar incidents were reported in that area. Yesterday, this notice was emailed to parents at Montclair schools, detailing more incidents that have occurred:

We have been informed through the Montclair Police Department (and through parent notifications of reports filed with the police department), of three separate incidents of attempted luring over the weekend, and as late as yesterday afternoon.

There were three different incidents and descriptions of suspect(s) and vehicles:
• Sunday, March 29th: Identified as a white male in his early 40's wearing a plaid shirt and possibly driving a green Chevy Suburban. Girls were asked for local directions and offered money to go with the stranger.
• Sunday, March 29th: Identified as a white male with brown hair and blue eyes, driving a black car, possibly a Mercedes Benz, with a "fake" license plate # K13-5E9. Two young girls were followed from the Montclair Public Library - main branch, towards Willow Street.
• Tuesday, March 31st: Identified as a white male with a white mustache and a lot of white and grey hair, driving a "beat up" red convertible. He spoke with a slur, and asked the students (speaking only to the girls) to give him directions to "the salon", and then further asked the girls to give him directions to "the church". This occurred at the corner of North Fullerton and Garden Street in front of the house across from the playground (by Watchung School). The parent of one of the middle school students was in close proximity, at the time of the incident.

In the notice, schools are reminding students not to talk or go near strangers, report any unusual situations to an adult, be aware of surroundings and not walk alone if possible. We remind our readers to also be hyper-vigilant; knowing about this as a community, we can put more eyes on the street. Joan Garry blogs about what news like this does to parents here.

Looks like we are going to have to set up a sting, 21 jump st style. Anyone have a catholic school uniform??

I have one I can lend you jimmy, but I'm scared of these weirdos. I can't even watch dateline.

Here is my stupid question - if every other person has a cell phone with a camera why isn't there a picture of one of these creeps yet? A few years ago a kid in Clifton did that to scare one of these losers away and it worked. At least the parent reported to be near by could have put their phone to good use and tried to get a pic of the car fleeing.

From the reports above, it sounds like there are a bunch of creeps trying to pull this fast one (unless the same creep has three cars and reguarly cycles through looks to make us think there are multiple guys).

men who molest young girls should be sent to an island in the middle of an Ocean for the rest of their lives. Period. Studies show they can't be rehabbed so remove them from society. If they killed their victim they should be executed in the same way as their victim.

And please, no lectures about the death penalty. This is my opinion and no "Laser Lecture" is going to change my mind.

Iceman, I agree!!!

Only I will add: ANYONE who molests ANY child--- I don't care which sex the predator is.

And don't get me started on those guys who beat women. Perhaps there's a hatch on that island for them...

yes, Prof, I forgot the cowards who beat women. My sister was married to a cop who beat her for 5 yrs and she finally went to a shelter for battered women. NJ should be very proud of facilites in each county who take care of these women and their kids. Yup, these men who beat up women are real tough guys.

That guy with the fake license plate (IF it is/was REALLY fake ... ) is ESPECIALLY scary. that goes to show that he is absolutely positively up to NO GOOD and has foul motives. It also shows pre- planning of what ever he had in mind.
It would certainly give the police a big added boost to locate these people if the people accosted could actually give an absolute car description, rather than "Possibly a _____" or might be a ____, or a "beat up convertible" ~

If I had a daughter, I'd get her a car the day she got her license, so she would not have to walk home and be subjected to this trauma.

Sandy, you HAVE to give your daughter a car so she doesnt barrow any of the show cars!

I'd teach my kids how to recognize and describe cars at an early age. Road trips are great for that

I think the police should stick with the time honored tradition of racial profiling and start stopping middle aged white men. You know, just to be safe.

Fits the description of members of the BOE. They are most definitely predators, otherwise known as creeps.

Iceman, I'm glad your sister got away from the creep. I hate hearing those things.

I'd like to see more of these predators stay in jail where they belong. They cannot be rehabbed and the rate of recidivism is ridiculous. Of course, I am sure they have their following who will flame me and tell me what wonderful pillars of the community they are and that they are merely misunderstood. Not buying it.

The 50-year-old man who was picked up in NY a couple of days ago in connection with the killing of the deli owner and his son in cold blood had priors for raping two 12-year-old girls. What was he doing out?

The girls approached are all way too young to have drivers licenses or cars. Middle schoolers seem to be catnip to this creep(s).

Jimmytown, kids don't do things like look out the car window anymore. Now they watch dvds in the car, or play DS. It's a shame.

There is indeed a high recidivism rate among sexual predators and why they are ever let out of jail is beyond me.

"" Sandy,The girls approached are all way too young to have drivers licenses or cars. ""

I know that ~~ "" the day she got her license ""

"" If I had a daughter, I'd get her a car the day she got her license ""

This predator is not just approaching young girls, but women as well. Be aware!!!!

I live in Glen Ridge and was running one evening about two weeks ago with my 8 month old when I was approached by a man driving a black or navy blue Mercedes truck. He pulled right up along side of me to ask me for directions to South Plainfield. He clearly was not even close to his destination and was acting very peculiar so, I immediately reported the incident to Glen Ridge police.
