For turning a 19th century Masonic temple into a 10,000-square-foot temple of pampering, Bangz Spa and Salon was honored last night with a preservation award from the Victorian Society in America. The building features original stained glass windows and vaulted ceilings and took 27 months to restore. Bangz owner Richard Cronk was raised as a Mason in the building.
Want to see it? The salon documented the restoration by taking hundreds of photos, which you can see here. Or you can treat yourself to a little gently-priced pampering during Bangz’s Community Spa Week, which starts today.

Still waiting to see the entrance arch restored. The crusty lettering remnants of its former inhabitant’s name distracts me from the overall visual quality of the work done.
Love “temple of pampering.”
Given the general devotion to good works and overall fellowship of Freemasonry, and the glut of day spas and hair parlors, it’s a distinct shame that this “temple of pampering” isn’t still a Masonic lodge.
And I believe Masons are accepted and initiated into a lodge, not “raised” in one. (Though they may be raised up to degrees higher than the third beyond which few Masons bother to progress.)
