Ever read an obituary of someone and think, "Gee, I wish I'd heard of this person before now"? Frank Gerard Godlewski sent word this past weekend of the death of Marilyn Faden, a popular drama teacher at Montclair Kimberly Academy when he was a student there. Faden passed away last Thursday at the age of 83.
Faden had a long and colorful life, starting as a child entertainer in the Catskills. In addition to teaching, she wrote and directed NBC's "The Children's Hour," participated in community theater and was an avid sailor.
"The service was full of family, friends, old Montclair Academy, Kimberley School and MKA alumni but no room could be big enough to contain all of us who loved Marilyn," FrankGG told us. "She touched so many of our lives in a positive way. Marilyn Faden is one of the people who molded my creavity and put me on the road to my career." Faden lived in Cedar Grove for 53 years.
Another remarkable local woman, Florence Heilbronner, passed away last Monday at the age of 81. A 40-year resident of Montclair, she also worked for many years as a librarian at the Bloomfield Public Library and was an active member of Temple Ner Tamid. On a personal note, Florence took note of my writing career from my earliest days writing for the Times, and never missed a chance to remind me that she was a reader.
Marilyn and Florence, you will be remembered fondly and missed.
